So depending on how you look at it, this is a deal, or it's just a back in stock notice. When I bought my first set of sensors, they were $80. I have wanted to buy another pair, but everywhere it was listed for $100 and out of stock. Ecobee may have raised the price to $100, but they have them in stock and ready to ship for $80 + tax

Seems like selling these as a 1 pack would be helpful to their supply issue or whatever is going on. Maybe now that they've been sold to generac, things will get better.

I actually only needed 1, so that would have been way better for me. But I can see uses for the 2nd one in a few months, so I'll just keep it off to the side

Are these actually better than the original sensors? Ecobee website/app had little improvement over the past 5 years

I never had the original sensors, but I would say they look better. I think they are smaller, too

The most notable differences of the SmartSensor from the Room Sensor are its more elegant redesigned appearance, extended battery life, wider viewing angle, enhanced occupancy detector with 'pet immunity', and the range it can be placed from the Ecobee thermostat.

Little story about my experience with ecobee... A few months ago, one of my smart sensors stopped functioning properly and would intermittently lose connection. I never contacted ecobee or anything, but it definitely was frustrating. Well, a few weeks later, I received a package in the mail from ecobee with a single new smart sensor inside. No note, receipt, or anything.

Somehow I think ecobee was monitoring my sensor's connection through the app and knew it was causes problems. So they shipped a new one out for free, no questions asked. I think it's pretty neat that a company can do that. With everything being connected to the internet now, it would be nice if more companies followed suit.

Is this compatible with the Nest Thermostat or would I need the Ecobee one?

I have one of these but it doesn't seem to actually do much. My heating bill is pretty much the same. And most my rooms register the same temp. Is there something else it's supposed to do? I wish ecobee could control each room vent to open and close them automatically and adjust individual room temps. If they released power vents I'd be all over it.

You need multiple thermostats and zoning controller to do this. I just had it done.

What the sensors are good for is sensing the rooms is detecting the temperature in certain rooms and based off schedules and/or occupancy, controlling the temperature based of that information.

For example, even before I had zoning, our main thermostat was on the first floor and a remote sensor in the master bedroom and kids bedroom. During the nighttime it controlled the temperature based on our upstairs temp (where the bedrooms were located) and during the daytime based off the main (downstairs) thermostat. It helped create some efficiency and savings.

This was especially effective before COVID when we spent the majority of the weekdays out of the house and nighttime upstairs.

The zoning helped even more since that can actually take the extra step to control the ductwork.

If your temperatures around your house don't vary much, it's not going to add much value. Our upstairs and downstairs can easily be 5+degrees difference depending and house traffic and outside temperature factors.

I've had 2 originals for years and they work great. I did have one that disconnected regularly but Ecobee replaced it free of charge years ago
