Not buying so don't know if this works here, but it's handy to know about.
On the subject of these drives though, at 7200rpm enterprise drives they're probably somewhat loud, and reviews seem to confirm that. They're intended to be in racks in a server farm where you won't hear them over the din of fans running. If you're buying these for a NAS, I'd only do that if your NAS is somewhere you can't hear it.

The only reason I can see them canceling is if they run out of stock but doubtful.

I have a 4x4TB Plex server right now, but am balking at spending over a grand for 4 of these golds though.
Most of my video I store at 1080p X265 and bitrate of 1-2Mbps. Most of my files serve 55" or smaller TV screens.
I could obviously start doing 4k and/or higher 1080p bitrate files.
But barring a larger screen, will I even notice? Honestly, I've avoided 4k because while I can display it, I don't see the difference.
Larger HDDs will definitely cut down my curating time since I review and archive media fairly regularly to ensure I maintain adequate storage space.
I have room for two more HDDs so I could just slap a pair of the 16TBs in with an expectation to upgrade the remainder down the road. That seems a waste though as they will just serve as 4TB ones in the interim. Maybe I should just throw 2 more 4TBs in and leave it be.
Just talking it through in my head (and post).
Should I expect HDD prices to drop this year?

That being said, since this is a 7200 rpm drive, it will run warmer than the 6TB drive that you're replacing so I would keep an eye on the temps until you're satisfied that things are okay. Theoretically, it should be okay because the 18TB WD external drives also come with 7200 rpm drives but better safe than sorry.

However, ask yourself- will you always have 55" TV and will you regred that your media is 1080p when you get 75"+ one day?

As far as TV size, its highly unlikely I'll upsize for at least 4 years. I just bought a Sony 55 OLED a few months back. Before that I had a Plasma. I tend to keep displays awhile. So I could just wait until HDDs are cheaper in 4 years. But then, all my older media would be at lesser quality.
I have done some 1080p HDR encodes and can notice the difference at times. I'm torn on HDR. It can look good, but other times I'm not sure I like literal eye searing brightness changes on some sources. I do *think* I prefer 10bit color and always choose that regardless.
Unfortunately, I also have ended up with bad encodes with HDR. In light to medium grays, there can sometimes be color pulsing from a neutral gray to warmer gray and back in static backgrounds. Its really noticeable to me and incredibly distracting. Hopefully, Ill figure out what I'm doing wrong with my HDR encodes someday.
