Another case of nice hardware getting passed up on due to limited RAM size and lack of expandability.

Most of the 13.3" Slim Laptops are now having soldered Ram, except from Business Laptops like HP ProBook 435 series, even the 14" laptops are now having soldered memory. That's not the problem.
The problem is that in USA, Asus and some other vendors have very limited number of variants available with Ryzen processors, not sure due to supply issue or indirect Pressure by Intel. The Intel version of this exact laptop is available with 16GB option as well.
In other countries in Europe and in Asia, manufacturers release a lot of variants with Ryzen Processors. In India, I found out that ZenBook 13 has 8 variants, Ryzen 5 5500U, Ryzen 5 5600U, Ryzen 7 5700U and 5800U, and each with 8GB and 16Gb variant. So, you have multiple options based on what you need.

Is this a 2022 model or last years model? I've been looking for the 14X zenbooks and they seem to be taking forever to show up.

They could put a 16GB soldered and it would be fine for most people. Probably cheap cause 8GB is a tough sell.

This is 2021 model. 2022 models have not been released yet.

The only way I'd ever buy a machine with soldered ram is if it was 16 gig or more. Otherwise its like buying a throwaway. Not worth anything to me.

Because battery life. People will complain.

I have always bought 4k if available in what I'm interested in.

OLED quality outweighs that to me.

Nice price but 8GB kills it for me.

The first generation OLED laptops were all 4k panels. This was a significant challenge for battery life, so the newest round of 1080p OLED panels dominate in effort to produce laptops which can still compete with LCD-equipped laptops for decent battery run time. You can find a few 4k OLED laptops, though they're going to much more common as refurbished first generation units. If battery runtime isn't a big concern, they have been pretty good deals (though these 1080p OLED models are clearly getting cheap!).

Good luck!
Jon
