Not when the powers out. Last year we discovered electricity here in texas can freeze to death.

In the third photo, it appears that the heater has incinerated the entire family at full power. Please be mindful of this.

I've gained so much and got quite a few deals on here. Figured I'd contribute to the Slickdeals community for the first time. Not a bad deal it seems. Ordered one for my garage...it's been COLD here in NM! Free shipping for W+ members.

Can these be compared to Propane patio heaters?

I find these types more effective than the ones with fans, even if more directional somehow. COunterintuitive, but has something to do with moving air vs. radiation.

Costco has a parabolic one like this that goes on sale for around $60 occasionally. Form factor is much nicer with OP's though, looks a lot nicer, svelte box vs. tabletop dish.

Valid point. I'll stick to my propane space heaters for that reason.

Not sure this one is worth the $86. It is 1500 watts which is the exact same as any other electric heater. While the infrared heat will be nice, there are plenty of other options that do the same thing. Also, with a cord length of 6' (you should be very careful/wary of using heaters with extension cords) you are going to be very limited on where to install. If it were me, I'd probably just buy a regular portable heater (I like oil filled radiators) and have more options on where to install/plug in.

This is primarily intended for patio use. Likely folks wouldn't be using a patio during a power outage amidst freezing temperatures.

You and your family should've just taken off to Cancun.

I have a 1500 watt heater blowing on me indoors right now. This just isn't enough to heat a patio. Get a propane one or better yet a mini split if going in a garage.

Well said. But I'm guessing that "infrared" makes it particularly useful outdoors on the patio. Agreed that other options may be better indoors.

And when you combine the cord issues you mention, propane seems to be the better outdoor solution.
