yes, this is the new version:

https://smile.amazon.com/Castrol-...09M982T3B/

frankly, without starting a debate, any decent full synthetic in the $10-$20 range is fine enough for everday use if changed regularly. but if you have an exotic or luxury car, you'll probably want something with european specs.

Good deal. Even the Walmart in-house brand is now $20. Then again, what hasn't increased in price.

You don't get a discount for 'no tomatoes,' but you always pay more for 'extra cheese.'

Awesome. I hate paying a lot of money for oil because my car takes about 4 quarts and I get stuck with 1/5 filled bottles every time.

Maybe they are clearing this out? On the product page (at least for 0W-20), it says:

ATTENTION: Castrol GTX Magnatec will be transitioning to a brand NEW Castrol product, GTX Full Synthetic, on January 1st 2022.

At least for the 5W-30, it's been at this price for most of the past year.
Maybe I'm not understanding this deal.

Thanks OP, I unfortunately have to do an oil change soon, and didn't realize there aren't any good synthetic deals right now.

Does anyone know how this Pennzoil compares the to oil in the deal? Besides having to go to Walmart.

That deal will be fine, if you need it now. Most of the big names are comparable, type to type. The big thing is actually changing the oil in a timely manner, lol.

Thanks, OP! No sales tax OR oil fees for me, for some reason. In store I almost always get hit with the oil fee.

Don't forget to keep your jugs for recycling. Every Walmart and most quick oil change places will take your old stuff for free.

key word is MOST. if you look at your chart, it hasn't fallen back down to under 20 since december. if you have a stockpile from last year before the supply chain issues, then this deal isn't for you. i was looking to change my oil since december and all these castrols magnetecs were between $25 and $50. shows on the right side of your chart. and that's not even including the 5W-20 or 0W-20 deal that hasn't even existed for a while.

Yep. Unless you're using your vehicle for super heavy duty stuff or you have a design flaw (or as European manufacturers call them, "advanced features"), then you can get several hundred thousand miles out lubrication in most modern cars by just changing the oil and making sure you're halfway paying attention to the type/weight.

Soooo many endless internet arguments are like "5w-30 sucks, 5w-40 is way better" from people who buy new cars every few years.

It has been at this price for most of the past year...so it's not exactly a clearance. It's definitely lower cost but not exactly a special deal.
