yes, this is the new version:

https://smile.amazon.com/Castrol-...09M982T3B/

frankly, without starting a debate, any decent full synthetic in the $10-$20 range is fine enough for everday use if changed regularly. but if you have an exotic or luxury car, you'll probably want something with european specs.

Good deal. Even the Walmart in-house brand is now $20. Then again, what hasn't increased in price.

You don't get a discount for 'no tomatoes,' but you always pay more for 'extra cheese.'

Good price for not having to deal with MIR like the Mobil 1 deals.

As of today, it is a good deal. Cannot beat $12 for 5 qt, but no where you can find it now. Great find. Ordered 6.
where did you find $12 for 5qt?

Thanks OP, I unfortunately have to do an oil change soon, and didn't realize there aren't any good synthetic deals right now.

Does anyone know how this Pennzoil compares the to oil in the deal? Besides having to go to Walmart.

I have a preference for Pennzoil and Mobil1. But even this Castrol works. I've thrown it in wifeys car a couple times when the price was right.

If you are doing < 5000 mile changes, you might also want to check the price on WM's Supertech synthetic, too.

Wonder if Mobil 1 will have rebates with all the supply chain issues.

Would be great if they included the 0W16 grade.

does motor oil degrade over time from storage?
Yes it does. The additive package will fall out of suspension and once that happens it can't be reattached. .

Over what time period does this happen? If so, why is there not an expiration date on motor oils?

Awesome. I hate paying a lot of money for oil because my car takes about 4 quarts and I get stuck with 1/5 filled bottles every time.
You're allowed to use the rest of the jug on your next oil change.

I have changed A LOT of machinery and automobile oil in my lifetime and never seen it happen. Maybe once in a bottle that was left out in the weather for several years. I think it got moisture saturation forming in it. It was so subtle, you could hardly tell. I diluted that puppy right in my 35 year old pickup with 5 quarts of pristine oil on a hot summer day. Hasn't siezed up yet.

Quick question, do I have to replace the High mileage synthetic motor oil after six months? I have a truck that sits around all day just staring at me, gets very minimal use.

If you don't like rebates this is a great deal. I always jump on the rebates and pay anywhere from $6 - $12 a jug and I have a stockpile. I wish they would put VW 507.00 spec oil on sale. It never goes on sale and it's expensive.

If the bottle is unopened and the foil seal is still on the neck of the bottle the degradation of the additives is a much longer time period.

Consensus looks like 5 years of shelf life... [bobistheoilguy.com]

Lol. All of my prior cars used fractions of a bottle, or a bottle and a half, so I got pretty good at Oil Math. Our current Hondacura 3.5 V6 uses exactly 5 quarts and is super convenient in that regard.

I'm in for one. How is this compared to Mobil 1 120758 Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy, 5 Quart
