Yeah sadly the screen sucks.

But for someone who doesn't work outside or under direct sunlight, this is a pretty good machine.

What nits should I be looking for if in the same boat as you? I have an HP now and it's not glossy but so dark and hard to see

Around 300 nits if it's a matte screen.
Over 400 nits if a glossy one.
