The 4500U is certainly more than fast enough for most people (my wife is very happy with her HP Envy x360 with a 4500u from 2020), but it is worth mentioning that it is 6 cores without SMT (hyperthreading), so it is not 12 threads like the 4600u or 5500u.

This means that for heavy multitasking or highly multithreaded workloads there is a decent sized performance gap between these models that may not be apparent by the model number. Most people don't do anything that hinges on this but those that do a lot of work with video encoding or streaming may want to research this further. With regard to gaming, the built in graphics will be more limiting than the CPU threads would be so it isn't much of a concern there. This isn't a gaming machine, though it will run older or less demanding games surprisingly well.

4500u = 6 cores/6 threads
4600u = 6 cores/12 threads
5500u = 6 cores/12 threads

I have a Dell XPS 13 which is an ultra portable that competes with this model and the RAM is solder on...they do this to make the laptop light and thin. I suspect RAM is soldered on the with this LG laptop too and thus is not up-gradable.

Checking the product page for this same laptop on Best Buy and a LG representative states the ram is not upgradable and mentions that the SSD uses an M.2 slot but is somehow not upgradable as well?

I would stay away from this

well that is a pretty harsh statement given the price! Your thoughts may be valid for you but at this price this laptop may be a perfect fit for someone with less than demanding requirements.

CPU performance hasn't been the bottleneck for normal usage in a long time. I have a Pentium n5095 machine that can handle browsing/media/office easily.

Looks like the usual LG Gram body, but with an Ryzen chip. Looks good, the 13in laptops from LG like the Gram and the Dell XPS are my favorite on the windows side of 13in laptops 👍

How does this compare to a Surface Laptop 4 with AMD Ryzen 5 8gb ram 256gb SSD? Was able to get one for $600 at a local Costco (brand new, return item), but still debating if I want to keep it or not.

I own this laptop, the SSD is upgradable. RAM is not.
I installed a 512gb SK Hynix P31.

Laptops is light, fast enough for basic usage, and battery life is good.
Supports USB-C charging, only at 45W.(I'm assuming) Works fine with Anker charger/cable.

In case anyone cares, linux works, but backlit keyboard doesn't work.
Using Windows 11, until it's fixed.
