This definitely seems like a worse deal than the 80K mile offers (or maybe it was even higher?). It says you get the pass after spending 5K in 3 months which is relatively heavy spending....but lets say you apply and get the card in 1 week 2/18/22, then complete the spending requirements in 2 months (2.5k a month) instead of 3) earliest you would get the companion pass would be 4/18/22 and it will expire on 2/28/23 so only 10 months of use) (most likely tied to statement date or something of the like - so likely even less). The 50K difference in flights is enough to cover at least 2 RT flights and likely more. Whereas with the 80K sign up bonus if you work the way to the companion pass you end up with the remainder of the year you qualify and the following year for free companion flights and you have more miles to book with......this one is a pass
Someone can travel with you whenever you do, for free. You still pay tax on fare. The pass lasts 1y.

It's a nice deal, you have to factor in how many times you would use it in a year to calculate the saving. Often southwest tickets are cheap in first place. Meanwhile there are other non related credit cards out there with 80,000-100,000 points which I think is a better deal.

If you are a hardcore flyer on southwest, it would be a slickdeal.
Only 4 people total. Once you set your companion, you can only change it 3 times.

Example $500 business class fare earns 1000 points on plus card.
When u actually fly it, receive 6000 points.

Actual earning from that is 7000 points. Sometimes they run promos to get double points on certain city pairs and certain time periods but they're targeted.

Bonus points are generally not eligible for CP

They are running a promo right now which gets you 20k referral bonus. I have no one I can refer to. If I did then that would be ideal to get extra 10k points needed and then some

I think you're confusing bonus points with tier qualifying points. In the example I gave the 5000 would be tier qualifying but the whole 7000 would be CP counted since chase awards them based on the calculation.

Got it. Isn't it too much to spend $1100 for flights (prob double of normal ticket price) when you could just spend to pay for mortgage etc and eat 2-3% fees? Even if it's 3%, you can spend $10k and you would have just spent max $300 in fees

I guess you could but u can also get creative and maybe avoid the fees for something like a mortgage for example buy a $500 Walmart GC and use rr shopping and maybe get 750 points for that and the Walmart GC is basically as good as cash in my household. Target way less so because then u forfeit the 5% ransom red card discount on all their high priced wares.

Also a little hint I learned accidentally, even if you return stuff, the spend is not reduced so say u buy a biz select trip for $800, let it post, then cancel for full refund a couple days later, chase WILL count that as spend even if you have a zero balance, seems dumb but they do...

It's still a sweeter deal if you can get the Performance Business card along with this one. That comes with a 80,000 point bonus with $5,000 spent in the first 3 months. So that gives you 85,000 points. Then if you add the 30,000 points plus $5,000 spend for the card in this thread you're up to 120,000 points. 5,000 more and you get the companion pass through the end of 2023. I've had the companion pass for the last 6 years. Happy to help anyone out with questions.

Does anyone recommend the best card comparing all three? I'm not a frequent traveler. Trying to pick the best card out of three options! Comments appreciated. Thank you.

if you travel frequently enough that the companion pass is something you care about getting, the Priority is the card to get. If you don't travel enough to really care about the companion pass, then why are you in this thread…?

Do you have a link to these credit cards?

Most these cards have slightly lower point ranges currently, book mark them for next season or take them as is. The capital one card at bottom is new with elevated bonus and extra vrbo/Airbnb credit currently.

Citi premier ($95 annual fee, you can always cancel after 1y) was 80,000 for several months now 60k.

Amex gold via Resy (they purchased them) website. 75,000 and 20% cashback at restaurants up to 250. 250 annual fee. High fee but you can get it back at restaurants and in Uber credits.

Chase sapphire 65k, $95 annual fee. Strong quarterly benefits - *primary* car rental cover included.

Premium 100k cards. Still worth the annual fee if you use the points well and/or the card benefits. Note the annual fees are high.

Capital one venture x 100k *new* $395 fee. Elevated bonus and limited time vrbo/Airbnb credit.
Amex platinum 125k points $695- worth it if you actually use all the benefits eg. Subscriptions, hotel, Uber etc. Amex centurion lounge at most major city airports.

Referrals available for some of these cards; get more points by having a family/friend refer you on top.

While I churn most credit cards for the bonus, I have kept a few for their strong benefits including: chase sapphire and Amex plat. For the new folks out there to this: it doesn't impact credit score, if you pay off in full each month and pace yourself.

This is what I'm hoping. I was worried if I did indeed reach the 125k spend it wouldn't give me CP until the end of 2023 but you're saying it still will if I reach that mark? I was waiting to sign up for the previous offer on these cards which was 40k miles and JUST missed them. We could have gotten CP then easily. Sadly this is the only offer now.

I don't see why it wouldn't since you're still meeting the required 125K points in one year to qualify for the CP. Even though the CP is a signup perk of this card (although for a shorter period of time) it should still extend it for 2023 if you meet their requirements.

SW is great and I have about 115,000 points. Cancelled trips in 2020/2021. Still don't feel comfortable flying during Covid. Thing is....the rental car! The prices are STILL OUT OF THIS WORLD!

I did the 100,000 end of 2021. Got 100,000 after spending $12,000. I'm up to 115,000 on the Companion. The last 15,000 spend is going to be tough. In my case this may have been better even though 70,000 less miles
Currently the referral bonus is 20,000 points. Refer 1 person, and you're there.
