This definitely seems like a worse deal than the 80K mile offers (or maybe it was even higher?). It says you get the pass after spending 5K in 3 months which is relatively heavy spending....but lets say you apply and get the card in 1 week 2/18/22, then complete the spending requirements in 2 months (2.5k a month) instead of 3) earliest you would get the companion pass would be 4/18/22 and it will expire on 2/28/23 so only 10 months of use) (most likely tied to statement date or something of the like - so likely even less). The 50K difference in flights is enough to cover at least 2 RT flights and likely more. Whereas with the 80K sign up bonus if you work the way to the companion pass you end up with the remainder of the year you qualify and the following year for free companion flights and you have more miles to book with......this one is a pass

Someone can travel with you whenever you do, for free. You still pay tax on fare. The pass lasts 1y.

It's a nice deal, you have to factor in how many times you would use it in a year to calculate the saving. Often southwest tickets are cheap in first place. Meanwhile there are other non related credit cards out there with 80,000-100,000 points which I think is a better deal.

If you are a hardcore flyer on southwest, it would be a slickdeal.

Yes, as long as you hit 125K points within a calendar year. So in my example you use the two cards plus some spend to hit the 125K total. That gets you two years of CP.

Priority Card has $149 annual fee but it gives $75 credit and 7500 anniversary points. Does this mean Card is virtually free (no annual fee) ?

or better to choose low fee card. I usuallu travel 4-5 times a year with my partner within US. Not sure which one to pick.

Depends if it's worth it if you plan on keeping the card long enough to get the credit after a year. You'll be paying the annual fee again after a year too. I personally just get the cards for the sign up bonus to get the CP and don't keep them open long enough to have to pay the annual fee again.

Does the purchase of gift cards count towards the $5000 requirement? I am wondering if I am a bit short by my closing date, can I just buy a gift card for the supermarket or something just to get to the $5000 spend level ASAP? Just wondering if gift card purchases are excluded....

Yes, they do count towards your total spend. I wouldn't get too carried away with gift card purchasing from sites that specialize in gift cards though, especially if you don't have a lot of other purchases on the card. They've been know to close accounts for lots of GC purchases.

Yes, you can get the cards whenever you want. You just want to make sure the 125K points hit your SW account in the same calendar year. When they do then you get the CP for that calendar year and the next.

If you get 125K SW points within one calendar year then you get the CP for that year AND the following year. There's multiple combinations of cards you can get to get you over the 125K. Most common is the business card for 80K and a personal one for 30K. Then add in your spending to get to the 125K. Once you get the CP then you go into your SW account and add your spouse as you companion. They can then fly for free (still have to pay some taxes) on every flight you take.

I tried through every angle with Chase to upgrade and they shut me down.

They said only option would be to contact some number to cancel the card, and then try to apply again with no guarantee of approval. I decided against it
