Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 14" Touchscreen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 5600U - 2240 x 1400 - Windows 11 - same specs, Costco sells for $649
That's a great deal but it's not a Thinkpad.

Just did. Guess you're right and I stand corrected, thank you.
My apologies for the snarky remark.
I find this response truly wholesome and I'm proud of you.

You still can add more RAM on the T14. The build quality on L is pretty solid but it's made from ABS plastic even though there is a aluminium display lid option for the L14. The T is made from a mix of high end materials like polycarbonate and magnesium alloy. T14 has a vastly superior screen. Battery life is also a little longer on the T14 and contrary to what you said the T series is actually thinner than the L series. Performance wise there will be little difference but there are things that make the T14 a better option for some including the screen. The base 250 nit screen on the L14 is basically unusable for me. The base T14 is 300nit
I said it clumsily. L14 is slimmer than T440p. The slimness pushes the need for a more premium materials. Build is very similar to the T14p. You are right, 250 vs 400nit.. I'm ok with 250 and can get much dimmer if that matters. The l14 does have a magnesium alloy case, I've had mine apart. It's just a plastic "lid" similar to the T14p (not T14). 45 vs 50 wh.. eh. Two open ram slots so dual channel vs single on the T14.
In my mind not worth the extra cash. Especially as for me the T14p was the consideration, not a T14. $50, sure go for the T. If you look at the L series as between the E and T, It's 80% closer to the T.

Good deal, looks similar to the BF/Xmas deals that they had on the X13, T14, and T14s. My only question is- this last lineup (Gen 2) was released around Feb. of last year. Any idea on when Gen 3 will be released?

Around this time of the year, so if you want to have the newest and shiniest, then I would wait but the model in this deal is a solid option for a great price. I personally like shiny so I'm waiting a bit longer.

Thanks for the info. I missed the BF/xmas deals but have been wanting a thinkpad for a few months now (am using a macbook right now, its fine..). People that ordered those deals in november/december are just receiving their machines now (based on their updates in those deal threads), so I guess it doesn't matter if i were to order this current t14 deal today or wait a few weeks for the gen 3, the laptop won't arrive for several months it seems.

Tempting but I'm waiting for the Z series to come out. Looking for 1080p webcam and OLED. It's nice to finally see a post here that ram can be upgraded (via another slot). With six cores this laptop should last a few years easily. Ram upgrades can further extend that.

I know in these days sometimes if you need it now, these are deals, but this does not seem like a deal.

t14s with ryzen 7s, 1gb drives, 16+ ram were on sales for ~$150 more just a month ago. With ryzens 9 more prevalent and next gen coming out soon, I bet these 5s (and similar intels) go on sale for less.
