Have bought 2 of these in the past and they work perfect. My original went bad, of course, out of warranty, and one is attached to PC to stream. Agreed, safer than eBay.

My understanding is that the Switch dock only works with the OEM power cable. So buying another dock without an official Nintendo A/C adapter doesn't help. Thoughts?

FWIW, I have a power and HDMI set up on each TV and just move mine around.
I am using a non-OEM power cable without any issues on one of the setups.

This is correct. It's a dual output transformer on the OEM block. 15v and 5v. The dock uses the 15v and the handheld uses 5v. I've never seen another charger like it other than for a switch

This isn't correct. You can't simply buy a USB-C to HDMI adapter and use it in place of a dock.
