Once you register the TurboTax software with Intuit, you will get access to all updates, bug fixes, etc. online. As long as it's the genuine software and you can register it, it shouldn't matter where you bought it.
Yes it is registered and latest updates installed. No further updates available after running into this error that many others have encountered.
All TT offers is a work around which may impact state taxes and require more time to attempt.
This is not acceptable for a software company.
I've bought prior years from them with no issue. But, there are reports of various issues, including spyware, from others. I like supporting small business over the giants, but will reconsider over tax software and potential data privacy issues. Again, never had a known issue with them.

Agreed that offering a workaround as opposed to a bug fix is unacceptable. I have found in the past that as tax season goes along, Intuit usually addresses any bugs. That doesn't help if you have already filed. I find bugs every year. It is frustrating.
My previous response was only about this deal, that once registered, users get access to all updates - not how good those updates might be. LOL!
The online version of TurboTax has limitations on stock importations. If you trade a lot (like day trading) the desktop version will import all.
As for Free Tax USA, that is fine if your return is simple and you don't need importations.
It's not about the programs it's about your needs and ease of use.
You should go to IRS.gov and they will show you approved tax preparers. Then you can choose from amongst the free ones, which are for the uncomplicated returns only.
Why would a person download the program/(buy a disc in years past)? What is the benefit over just using the website?
The digital version (at least the ones I bought from Amazon) allows 5 federal e-filing so you can share it with your family. I have shared it with my SO and my brother for the last couple years with no problem. That saves us a bunch than filing online.
skipping TT this year . . . the price just keep going up every year, and with that other are cumming in to play. it's time to reset and go with another tax software.

This is the same sale prices it's been for the last 10 years. Quickbooks, though, another story.
"Bunch of reviews on google" LOL
there are 5, 2 looks like shills, and one is a guy complaining that they were slow, sent the wrong product, and would not reply to his emails.

Agree. Used TT Premier forever but its just too expensive when you can get HR Block Deluxe which does most of the same things for $18 unless you have really complicated finances like real estate and rentals. I am trying it this year myself.

Probably will get flamed for this. But I used the cashapp one for free this year. Free state and Federal. Got my refund back the next week. It's got a nice interface. I drive Uber and grubhub part time and it had everything I need and normally do in TurboTax. If your taxes aren't that complicated it's worth checking out.
Be aware this license is only for the Desktop version, you can't use it for the Online version. If you have dealt with crypto, the Online version is MUCH easier to file with (lets you import CSV file of you transactions for example). The Desktop version cannot do that. FYI.
You can do it online and download the file, then upload it onto the desktop version.
I used to love TurboTax, I though it was the best. Now I use its online version as a free starting point to approximate my refund, then use freetaxUSA to finish it; I ended up with bigger refund for two returns simply because freetaxUSA was easier and quicker to navigate around, although it can be easy to miss certain things.

not the same price if i have to hunt for it every year. in any case, many other alternatives are now available at a fraction of the cost. i am very comfortable using TT, but confident that once i switch i will not be looking back.

Good Luck with your issue!
