Trust me, you can be an ethical dog owner and buy/use these types of products responsibly. You buy this collar because you love your dog.
.....
There's no reason for the vast majority of people to use shock collars on their dogs. While e-collars can be used "effectively", people who aren't well-versed in dog training can easily end up causing behavioral issues instead.
You can find the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior's position paper on the use of positive reinforcement vs. aversive methods here: https://avsab.org/wp-content/uplo...t-2021.pdf
One of their citations is a 17-study metanalysis you can find here: https://www.sciencedire
From the abstract of that metanalysis:
Quote
:
The reviewed studies included surveys, observational studies, and interventions. The results show that using aversive training methods (e.g., positive punishment and negative reinforcement) can jeopardize both the physical and mental health of dogs. In addition, although positive punishment can be effective, there is no evidence that it is more effective than positive reinforcement–based training.

The unit is good. Could be better labeled between the modes and the shape could be slimmer or more ergonomic. Other than that, it works well and was worth buying at the regular price.
