Piece of junk! Get a used storage tote which may already have holes for you. Even a brand new one will be way cheaper!

How do these compare with the ones that you can manually rotate?

The main difference is that those are able to be easily turned over, an important part of the composting process. They also have two compartments so you can add to one side while letting the other side decompose. This style is generally slower since it's a static pile, but you could stir things up with a small shovel and that should speed things up a bit. I would avoid this style if you have pets since it's open at the bottom and critters could root around in it. I prefer the tumblers, but honestly I'd like to have both, and this style would be good as a staging area for lawn trimmings and leaves before putting them in a tumbler with food scraps. Currently I'm using a cheap trashcan for this but it'd be nice to get some more bug action to jumpstart the whole process.
