Recently picked up a leather case from Best Buy, got home and box was empty. Went back to the store and was given a replacement which was also empty. They checked the three other they had in stock and they were all empty. Gave me a refund so ordered one on Amazon. The box was not empty but the leather case had been swapped with a cheap generic case. Finally gave up and paid more at the Apple store.
The Best Buy Horween Platinum cases can be found open box on eBay for around or less than $20 and aren't coated. They're also made with leather which is of a high quality rather than whatever Apple is using. Apple's cases don't even smell like leather.

That's sad. I did see a Nintendo switch pro controller open box at Walmart that has a no name brand controller in it

I don't understand how Amazon is getting away with selling so many counterfeit items for so long. You would think there would be more lawsuits from more genuine sellers like Apple for damaging their brand.

This was the info I was looking for. I loved the Apple leather case I had for my 11 Pro - felt great and aged wonderfully. I absolutely loathe the one for my 12 Pro. Feels so cheap and looks pretty bad after a year of use. Was hoping they had gone back to their previous manufacturing process this gen.

I literally have same case for 4 months from five below store for my 12 pro max and nothing changed just fyi
I tried the 12 leather case when I had it and again with the 13 pro and they both suck. Their silicone cases suck too. Apple just doesn't make durable cases.
Also i don't get this hate for apple prices. Yes, they are a bit overpriced. But for most of their products, you can't get anything of the same quality at the same price. There are more expensive leather cases. And there are less expensive leather cases but almost all are worse.
this case is not designed for super heavy drops. so no point comparing to a 10 dollar thick case.
