If you are interested in a more traditional style 8" chefs knife, here is a "Zwilling® J.A. Henckels Five Star 2-Piece Must Haves Knife Set" from Bed Bath and Beyond including a 8" chefs knife and a 4" paring knife: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/...d=60559548 If you have a 20% off coupon, the after coupon price is $96. You need to add the item to your cart to see the sale price $120. Shipping is free.

I believe that the Rocking Santoku Knife is the same knife sold at Bed Bath and Beyond during holiday season in the past for $35-$40 after coupon. I bought one and gifted to my sister, I used it at her house and really liked it.
Great deal! BBB excludes Zwilling from coupons.

... Did you mean it has been $80 for the slim, here at C&M as well?
Yes I seen both for $79.99 each in recent months. The Slim Chef's is also offered in Le Blanc which is white handle. Be aware that Zwilling uses the smaller medium handle on the Slim. Target had it for $89. If you can wait it will likely come around again.

Can you please help me clarify if the coupon exclusion at BBB on Zwilling is for in-store only or for online orders as well?

I tried to test it by adding "Zwilling® J.A. Henckels Five Star 2-Piece Must Haves Knife Set" https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/...d=60559548 in my online shopping cart. The sale price is $119.99. My 20%off coupon applied successfully. I am on the last order review page with a button 'Place My Order'. The price shown is:

order summary
1 Item(s) in Cart

Order Subtotal
$129.99

Sale Discount

Coupon(s) Discount
-$24.00

Net Order Subtotal
$95.99

Estimated Tax
$7.92

Total

I didn't click the button 'Place My Order' as I don't have a need to buy right now. But this page seems to tell me that 20% off coupon does apply to Zwilling online. For in-store, my last Zwilling knife purchase was in the beginning of 2020 and my paper coupon was taken at the register without any issue.

If you can help contribute some data points on whether or not BBB still takes coupons on Zwilling in-store and/or online, I am sure that all of us would appreciate.

If it matters to anyone, the 5-star line has a full bolster and doesn't look like to have a full tang. On the plus side, it's forged

I hone my Japanese VG10 knives once a while using a ceramic rod (https://slickdeals.net/f/15562612-arkansas-sharpeners-ac46-ceramic-11-5-sharpening-stick-honing-rod-w-7-rod-wood-handle-7?v=1) because steel rods are just too soft for hard blades.
Another commenter pointed out that hard metal knives microchip when you use a steel on them. watch for that. I bought the ceramic hone in your link. I'll be watching. If I get microchipping I can still use it on some of my other knives.

I'm still convinced a vg10 chef knife and a ken onion edition sharpener is the smartest oversimplifed way. Screw hones, and giving knives mirror finishes. Just do a couple passes every 4-6 months (at most).

Thanks for the heads up and intro on ken onion edition sharpener. I have only used a King KDS 1000/6000 whetstone in addition to the ceramic rod mentioned in the link. Although I have never used a steel rod, I can totally believe that it can microchip VG10 steel. I have gifted several German steel rods to family and friends (to be used on German knives of course) but just never kept one for myself. With my ceramic rod, I have not noticed any microchipping issue so far.

Are these good for spreading butter? I'm looking for an expensive set that can cut jelly sandwiches and such. At all seriousness, why are these better than my 5 year old $20 set which cuts everything. I just don't get expensive sets.

I switched to a ceramic honing rod and am never going back to steel. It combines the best of a steel honing rod (bends the bent knife edge back to straight) and an extra-fine ceramic sharpening rod (removes a tiny amount of material from the knife edge to sharpen it).

Since buying the ceramic honing rod, I have not had to use any of my sharpening stones. The knife (a 7in Zwilling Pro thick Rocking Santoku) stays razor sharp just by using the ceramic hone right after using the knife.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

This was $100 last year and it only got 1+ deal score.
Why suddenly $150 becomes a deal ?

Which 7" pro knife? Chef, Santoku, Other?

For reference, the Slim's spine is 2.5mm [cutleryandmore.com] vs 3.0mm for the 8" chef [cutleryandmore.com] and the 6" chef [cutleryandmore.com], couldn't find a traditional 7" pro.
The standard version of 7 inch seems discontinued. I bought one in 2019 which is really great.

Thnx for pointing out the previous deal. Was considering, but think I'll hold off for now.
