The 34" qd-Oled version of this monitor (AW3423dw) is coming out in march for $1300. Might be worth considering.

If I'm paying this much for a monitor, I'm going QD-OLED I woudl think.

If only this had the PBP / KVM features that the Dell U3821 model comes with. Darn.

I have this monitor and the only "gamer" thing you see from the front is the Alienware text on the bottom. All of the LEDS can be disabled too. I have my monitor on an arm and you really can't tell it's a "gaming" monitor.

Now if you see the back of it on a regular basis, I could understand. I never see the back of mine since my desk is up against a window.
That's a fair point. And I've definitely seen worse than these. My desk is in the middle of my office, so in my case the back is more visible than if it were up against a wall. But putting it on an arm would definitely help. Good to know the LEDs can be disabled!

Alienware is already releasing 34" of this as QD-OLED next month for $1300. 38" QD-OLED likely to come this year too.

Proceed with caution unless you desperately need a monitor.
It's hard to say - there still isn't that many 38s now. Looks like companies are moving towards the 40+ inches and 4k arena now. The issue is we don't know what the prices for this monitors will be but I'm pretty sure it won't be under 1k that this monitor has potential to be

That's why I'm just saying proceed with caution. Not telling everyone not to get it. Just be aware that within a year, there may be a 38" QD-OLED more affordable than you think. For those who buy a new monitor every year, go for it. For those who see monitor as a longer investment, definitely wait a year unless your current monitor really needs to be replaced.

Makes sense if you are okay with 34". I have this monitor and really want the oled but I will wait until there's a larger one....but honestly this monitor is so great that I don't really care that much. I do have a cx oled tv so I do understand how great oled is.

You can turn all of the lights off and it's really not bad. I think it looks great actually. I like the white.

I have a 34" and it's taking all my force of will not to pull the trigger or this one of the Samsung G9. Patience...patience...patience...

What's the ETA on the QD-Oled?

I tried a G9 but prefer this AW3821DW. Having the extra vertical space, and just being able to actually play games at high framerates at native resolution...... I have an rtx 3090 but the G9 is a zillion pixels and you don't even see much of the screen while gaming. Idk. Just my personal opinion. I think this 38" 3840x1600 is the perfect size / resolution / aspect ratio.

I bought this monitor in November 2020 and it's been great for my hybrid gaming/WFH setup thus far. The better than average vertical resolution really helps.

Paid $1350 for this around time time it came out. So much bigger than a 34" and looks amazing. Of course you need the hardware to push this resolution but it's worth it.

How do you like the curvature? My Predator X34 has like an 1800R curvature. I was eyeballing the G9 mainly for the massive curvature for racing games and flight sims but I can see how this 38" is more useful overall. Did you have a 34" before this? If so, did you feel a noticeable difference moving up...like "wow this is amazing"? I went from a 27" to a 34" and that was a staggering difference. I hate having to buy something like this sight unseen.

I find the curvature to be fine. I had an alienware 34" before I had this, and going up to it was a massive upgrade in size and picture quality imo. My 34 developed a flicker in December, and they sent me this as a warranty replacement, so the fact that I had to pay $0 to upgrade surely colors my viewpoint, but it's really nice.

I had 34 inch curved Dell, which was too small. I thought about getting this 38 model but I'm not a gamer, and ultimately decided to get expensive 40 inch curved from Dell, paying $2200. The extra resolution (5k) and extra real estate was better for programming and work from home.

I'm using this monitor right now. Love everything about it. I replaced my LG C1 with this one. The only complain is this monitor doesn't do auto switch to a different source like the LG. For example, having a laptop and a desktop connect to this, when I turn off my laptop and turn on my desktop the LG C1 will auto switch to my desktop. This monitor doesn't, I have to manually select my desktop. The size is a bit smaller than what I want but there is no other choice. I hope there will be a bigger version.

Isn't Samsung G9 better than this?

I got this monitor on BF deal and I am pretty happy with it. Awesome to play games, great for double windows setup for productivity. IPS, G-Sync. The only disadvantage is HDR kind of sucks, but there is not much gaming content with HDR
