Now, I would not be surprised if there were a bunch of reddit complaints about using something like this when their Switch magically 'bricked' while jailbreaking and charging via a 3rd party adapter at the same time...."must be the charger that did it" they scream to the warranty department

in trying to make the connections loose enough to emulate the drop in/drop out feel of the Switch DOck while without violating Nintendos patents some docks were made loose enough to short out in some edge cases.
edge cases or not, a single short is usually enough to kill the gadget so no its not just "NiNtEnDo fAnBoYs" making up. once more reputable after market mfgers realized this however, they adjusted their designs and its not as common these days as people can simply refer to the reviews.
all that said, i don't think that this battery pack in particular should be affected as it appears to clamp on pretty straight. also, there is no mention of it on the reviews anywhere i see - unlike other dock makers that were affected by the design quirk i described above.

My 8 year old son's Switch dock died. Wouldn't charge the Switch or connect to the TV. I pulled the power plug that came with it from the dock and plugged it into his Switch and it charged no problem. So I picked up an aftermarket dock because it was way cheaper. Put it in the dock and didn't work. pulled it out and had the blue screen of death. The Switch was not jail broken or modified in any way. Started searching the net and found out about that problem
Usually I look things up before I buy, but, didn't this one time. Live and learn. Expensive mistake.
Your solution works too though, and has its own upsides of course
What does someone's parenting style have to do with the utility of something like this? My kid will play for a half hour then get distracted and decide doing flips is more fun. This is for me, so if I want to play handheld and my kid forgot to put the switch on the charger, I don't have to run a cord to play.
