Site says ships in 4+ months, not sure how accurate that is but I've heard Lenovo is pretty solid with their return policy

It will check out for the same price, you need to use a Cashback source to get it down further. 12% is no longer available but some sites have 8%, which brings it down to around $1500.
It won't be a direct discount, but you'll get a check in 3ish months for about $130

Raku10. Site was giving 15% CB over Presidents Day weekend, then 12% after. Looks like it dropped down to 8% yesterday.
Also, you can stack on an extra 5-7% off using ID.ME in the cart if you qualify (medical, education, military discounts)
Also, while I can't make any guarantees, the Lenovo shipping times are often far overestimated. I've never seen a 4 month shipping listing take longer than 1 month, and if you heckle them in the chat, you can get priority. Just...be personable, not pushy.
My two cents.
Mine said ships in 4+ months but I received it in about 3-4 weeks. Same configuration.
However if you want to do a custom build with Lenovo, there are some cons vs "ready to ship" machines:
1. It varies on shipping time, some people report within a month, some said still in waiting for 3 months+, on build page, it says 4 Months+
2. It only came with basic warranty, ready to ship usually have ultimate warranty and can be extended afterwards for 3 or 4 years for pretty cheap price(around $100-160). Basic warranty usually need more to buy extended warranty.
3. As for Legion 7i in general, all the machines are came with Micron vram
4. The HDMI 2.1 is gimped with less than 40G bandwidth, it can only output 8bit 4K@120hz
5. Memory is 1Rx16

Are the intel platform differences worth the wait?

In my opinion, it really boils down to whether or not Thunderbolt is important to you. Thunderbolt could potentially simplify your "docking" process in terms of I/O. If you don't plan to move the laptop a lot, or if you just only intend to have a couple of things to plug/unplug, then the impact of Thunderbolt is pretty low. You also have to factor in the cost of a good Thunderbolt dock to justify using it to its full potential. If you don't have a specific need for it, then I am quite positive you'll be equally satisfied with the AMD model.
edit: Though, if you are on the fence, try chatting with one of the sales folks on their site's chat. They might be able to get you quicker shipping, I've seen it before.
