Ok, so I've posted up a couple nice automotive scanners in the past.
However if you just need a simple car code read, nothing fancy and no more, this is definitely the device for you!
Under $20 allows you to read and clear your engine's ECU/PCM codes.
With today's gas prices it would cost you $2 just to get to Autozone and back for a code read.

You won't get the sweet gauge customization and info the phone will give you though.
I've found the BT ones work better for datalogging but not for rapid reading and clearing of codes.

Auto zone in my area stopped renting out the code readers and won't do it for you anymore get. At least the last time I checked pre covid times.

Before buying this, I also already had a bluetooth reader paired with my Android phone and Torque Pro. But the standalone reader that the OP mentioned is way more convenient to use.
