I own this watch in this exact color way. Invicta haters regularly come out of the woodwork, trash this watch and then recommend something costing two or three times as much. For $45, this thing is a steal. It's powered by a well regarded Seiko automatic movement and the case is all stainless steel and nicely finished. And the exhibition caseback is just plain cool. People who will nitpick over the mineral versus sapphire crystal, alumimun vs ceramic bezel, hollow endlinks and pressed steel clasp seem to lose sight of the fact that we're talking about a sub $50 automatic watch.

Legitimate reasons not to buy this watch:

If you don't appreciate the old fashioned charm of automatic (self-winding mechanical) movements, look elsewhere.
If you hate the idea of a Submariner homage, look for an original design. But but don't harp on Invicta for copying Rolex's iconic design, because they're far from the only company that does this.
If you're willing to brave the wild world of Aliexpress and other Chinese retail sites, you can get a similar Submariner homage with better specs for not a lot more ($75-$100)
The Invicta logo engraved on the side of the case bugs the crap out of some people.
Are you sure you want a dive watch? It gets its 200 meter water resistance in part due to its screw down crown, as does just about every other dive watch on the planet. If you forget to screw that crown back down after setting the time and get it wet, even once, you WILL ruin your watch.
Considering current situation.... Vostok might not be a best suggestion.
Invicta's QC and manufacturing processes have come a long way. Gold tone actually looks like gold. They use the TMI NH35a automatic movements like Seiko does and while they aren't as smooth as a NE88, Swiss made 25 jewel automatic they are decently accurate (but not Quartz accurate)

For this price nothing can touch it. There are better watches to be had albeit at a 300% increase in price.

Well that's simply not true, especially of something like the Duro which has a screw-down case back. Gaskets are easily replaceable, and the combo of a gasket and a screw down means the water resistance should not change at all. I would bet all my money that a Duro or something similar would outlast and out-value any watch with one of the lower-to-mid range automatic movements such as this simply because of the durability of quartz vs auto and the price to service an auto.

For the record, I fully agree that the hate for Invicta is overblown. To be fair though, they did do it to themselves with their nonsensically high retail prices, which people obviously caught onto. That doesn't mean they aren't a good choice at the right price though. Truly, if this didn't have the gold tone that's going to make it look bad as soon as it rubs off, I'd be buying it and commenting in support of it.
Where are you coming up with this service issue on automatics? My Fossil automatic (which was $25 at the Fossil outlet store) is 20+ years old still works fine, even when I occasionally leave it unused for a few months. My fathers 30+ year old Rolex Datejust has never had service and still works perfectly.

Can someone comment on the quality difference , if any, with a similar Seiko or Citizen? Is the Eco the best way to go? Good choice? Any suggestions on another brand at the roughly $150-$200. level?
The movement inside, NH35A, is literally made by Seiko. So this will be as reliable as any other NH35 automatic.

As for Eco-Drive... well, yeah, any quartz will be more accurate and durable than any automatic. That's just a fact. If you are going to be putting the watch through rough treatment then you don't want an automatic. But a NH35 will withstand the bumps of everyday life well and usually be accurate to around 10 seconds per day.

If you're looking for a diver watch in that price range, I strongly recommend considering Orient Mako II
I've got two Rays which I prefer to the Mako, just my style choice.
Orient is owned by Seiko but has its own movement. Their movement is better than the Invicta, IMHO.

This is great price for the Invicta, an inexpensive intro to the world of automatic watches which aren't for everyone. I have a gold tone Invicta(same movement as this one) and would stick to the SS because the GT is wearing off a bit now. It's held up well to mild abuse with minor scratching. You can get some pretty wild looking Invicta's but their autos are good for the money.

Here's one for the ladies

I like the looks of that one as opposed to the gold men's one.

I like this stainless one with blue, $46
https://www.amazon.com/Invicta-Di...B07SH3673C

and in stainless + grey/black $46

https://www.amazon.com/Invicta-Di...B07SH16WRJ

Looks like they have lots under $50 if you dig around. Invicta isn't my favorite brand, but the price is hard to argue with.
Yeah, if you're only spending ~$50 just go with quartz since servicing the automatic watch would cost multiples more than the watch itself. Not worth it.

As a dive master I would seriously recommend A citizen pro at minimum this is your life that you're playing with. The last thing you need to do is be on a Deco stop and not have your watch work.
That's what your dive computer is for. I don't know any divemaster who goes on Deco dives without a computer. Even if you plan to stick with DecoPlanner schedule, something can happen to throw off the planned deco. And if you went with watch + table, you'd kill your bottom time which nobody likes. Personally I always go with watch AND console (and bring tables in planned deco dives in case computer fails). You'd be incredibly unlucky to have both fail and also be in team where nobody else has a working watch or computer.

Where I agree though is that I wouldn't bet my life on a $45 watch from Invicta.

Plus let's be honest. 99.99% of people getting a diver watch won't be diving Deco dives, if they're divers at all.

I do watch repair. To buy a replace NH35 is around $50-$60. Plus, to pay someone like me to install it. You're looking at at least double that. I don't like the Invicta brand, but even I admit this is a decent deal for what it is.

I have a 42mm khaki field that needs the stem replaced. I went to adjust the time and the crown / stem just separated from the movement.

Any idea if it's worth fixing? Keep in mind the gray market price of $400. Thanks.

Invicta is like the Axe spray of watches yeah it's good and gets the job done, some people may like it at a glance but it's going to be a watch you grow/phase out of quickly and there's no resale value.
Vaer D5 autos are where i landed. I wear them more then my Rolex

I have several beautiful Invictas and I love them all. If you buy a cheap watch, no matter the brand, you shouldn't expect much. People hate on everything but it doesn't make any of the hate true. Buy whatever you like and just be happy about that.

To each their own, but I'd take the blue face Casio Duro instead for essentially the same price.

Not bad looking submariner copy, but beware-Based on reviews, it has minimal reserve. Aka you may need to reset it every morning.

Seiko makes different quality movements; the one referenced in the comment you quoted, the 7S26, is much worse than the NB35A. Seiko puts that movement in some of their watches, and thus you have an Invicta with a better Seiko movement than some Seiko watches.
Seiko 7S26 is from the nineties and has been discontinued NH35A was introduced around 2011-12 and has features to hand-wind when kept for a long time and a better movement than 7S26. There have been upgraded versions of NH-35A you will notice on high-end Seiko watches and NH-35A / NH-36 used in their low priced watches and still being manufactured for their own use and third parties like Invicta. NH35A is reliable and has been time-tested.
