My dad got this with the THX towers. Really clear sounding center channel. My mom also liked it and she doesn't usually notice or care about these things.
What are your other speakers? First choice is a center that is the same as the LR, if you can fit it. What are your LR? If you have floorstanders, the bookshelf version might fit under your TV. If you're determined to have a horizontal speaker, you're in for a world of disappointment unless you sit dead center. These horizontal speakers have tiny horizontal dispersion and big vertical, which is the opposite of what you need.

Have you heard monolith center? 6.5 inches woofers on monolith vs 5 inches woofers on elac for starters..
The size of the of the drivers affects bass extension, but that's not job one of a center speaker. Not even job ten. Horizontal directivity, frequency response evenness, SPL, and distortion matter far more. I can find crap speakers with 10" drivers, and great speakers with 4" drivers.

I have not seen any threads on avsforum about great center channels with 4 inch drivers. You still want that bass extension on deep male voices for instance right? Anyway unless there's a direct comparison published somewhere it's not right to say that this elac beats monolith. What specifically you think this monolith does a bad job with?

Do you own this monolith center?
Monolith THX-365C is 4 ohm and my receiver Sony STR DH790 spec says 6ohm.
All my other speakers are rated at 8ohm and this center channel would be the only 4ohm speaker. I have a sub and also there is 3 ft ventilation space above the receiver. With my current JBL 520C which is 6ohm, a volume of 35 is the max I use on the receiver and anything more is too loud.
Can my 6 ohm receiver drive the 4ohm Monolith THX-365C in this situation?

Probably not recommended but my last few Yamaha, Denon and Onkyo receivers all recommended not going below 6 ohm centers but I've been running two 8 ohm bookshelf speakers in parallel for a long time. I think it's fine unless you tend to really let her loose.
Well when you decide your 'home theater' in a box is no longer good enough you might discover that a decent center channel costs a decent amount of money.
