I happened to find these via the Lowe's app. I went into the store, and an employee said they were clearance, and even though there were none in the bay where they should have been, he said his device was telling him there were 12 left. I happened to look up, and there was a single, large box labeled "1033997" (the item number) with 12 light units in it. I assume the lights are getting offloaded because it looks like quite a few people in the reviews expressed problems with them failing. But for $6 each, I bought what I needed and several extra for replacements.

Retail price appears to be $24.98.

I checked Brickseek and found at least a few more stores with some in stock at the ~$6 price:
  • Largo Lowe's #702 (ZIP 20774)
  • [removed many stores that are now OOS]
Around $12 each (half off regular price):
  • Camp Creek Lowe's #1715 (ZIP 30344)
  • Atlanta-Edgewood Lowe's #1875 (ZIP 30307)
  • S. Dekalb-lithonia Lowe's #2232 (ZIP 30038)
  • Fayetteville Lowe's #686 (ZIP 30214)

Good price if they work for more than a month. I've had a ton of their Lithonia brand old-style flourescent electronic ballasts go bad. This was 10 years ago, but I'm talking like 10+ went bad in the first year when I built my shop. Kept exchanging for warranty replacements per the 1-yr warranty printed on the box until I got smart. Not Lowes faultt, but also not woth the wasted time.

Wouldn't surprise me if a number of them fail (likely why Lowe's put them on clearance and discontinued). But for $6, I can replace a couple of them if they fail in the coming years, or change brands if all of them fail. Seems like a cheap gamble to me. 🙂

Anything can be used, but wont work correctly. You'd be wasting your time and money

This isn't entirely true, led lights can be used as effective grow lights for non-fruiting / non-flowering, great for seed starting.

The transformer is usually the part that fails. The LED can keep on going to many years

They went on clearance for this price at many stores last year, so even bigger YMMV than usual. Well worth it at $7.

6500k is ideal for cover all your bases. I heard 4k is still okay, myself I'm experimenting with some spares I have have at the moment for seedlings for transplanting. I'll see how the tomatoes turn out in a month or so

I have been using fluorescent lights to start my seedlings for 40+ years. These are 4000K and better than the old T12 fluorescents I used in the beginning. I use these to start my tomato, pepper and eggplant seeds. Our local UC agricultural extension service head many years ago suggested it in place of the expensive grow lights. Nothing beats real sunlight. My plants start kind of spindly but fill out eventually. i use a heating box to keep the temperature close to 74 degrees so when I have these 30 degree F mornings the seeds don't care,

I have used 4K for a couple of years. I used standard T12 lights for a couple of decades and don't see much difference. My biggest issue is keeping the seedlings warm enough. I have to use humidity to get the temperature up to 80 degrees rather than just 75F. I do tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. My plants are a little spindly until I get them in sunlight.

Just picked up 10 at Manchester, Nj for $1.99 each. They found another case of 12 and were putting in the electrical clearance aisle cap.
