The Powerstack excels in two areas:
1) Capacity per unit of weight.
2) Ability to give up power faster.

So:
1) The Powerstack has about half of the capacity of the standard 5AH battery. It weighs less than half of a 5AH battery. If you're looking to shave a few ounces off a tool you're holding all day long, this is a good choice.
2) The Powerstack gives up power faster than a standard 2 or 3 AH battery, meaning it will provide more torque to impact drivers, etc. It is on-par with the 5AH battery pack.

Personally, I have a bunch of 2/3/4AH battery packs, and I just swap them out more frequently for most tools. If you have a Flexvolt Advantage or Power Detect tool, then sticking a Flexvolt or just a larger (respectively) battery will make sense if the task you're doing requires extra power. For example, I stuck a 6AH Flexvolt battery on my DCF887 Impact Driver when working on my deck. The 887 is not marketed as either FA or PD, and yet the driving difference was clearly noticeable. But the 6AH Flexvolt battery is huge and heavy. A similar power-boost effect is noticeable with the Powerstack battery, without adding the weight.

tldr: The powerstack gives up energy faster, which means it will give a performance boost in some tools. But that comes at the cost of a faster discharge, and since it's ultimately a small battery, you'll get about half the usage time of a 5AH.

Oh, and I should mention that there is some discussion about poor heat dispersal while charging, which will likely decrease the lifespan of the battery. I would recommend using an actively-cooled (read: with a fan) charger with these to maximize longevity.

It's good for finish and detail work, but if you want to remove more material quickly you'd probably want the orbital. I've got a plug in orbital, so I have this one and I'm good with that combo.

Under the $139.00 price and HD Credit Card promotion you should see "Free Gift With Purchase", it shows the sander and "+" and empty box with green check and the word "FREE".

Can someone explain a little bit in detail if I should move away from my 4-5ah Dewalt and switch to power stack? I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. Of course the added benefit is a lighter battery but is it worth it?

I think it's situational. Having a 5 ah battery on a Sander isn't the most comfortable.

It's only a 1.7ah battery, so it will run out quickly. I have one I use for quick drill/driver work but other than that I still mostly use my 4ah and flexvolts.

I don't know how to read what these are but I assume these other numbers are for the same discount combo utilizing other tools and wanted to share in case others here can interpret.
