Update 01/28/2022: We investigated a reported issue with micro-stutter when gaming on the PS5. We tried to reproduce the issue with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Astro's Playroom, but we weren't able to.
The Sony X91CJ supports most common signals from the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but it's not without issues. First, if you want to play games in Dolby Vision, you're limited to 4k @ 60Hz. You either have to set the HDMI Signal Format to 'Enhanced Format' for 4k @ 120Hz signals, or to 'Enhanced Format (Dolby Vision)', which limits it to 4k @ 60Hz signals, as you can see in the Xbox menu. Although the Xbox says that the TV supports VRR when you set the HDMI Signal Format to 'Enhanced Format (VRR)', we're still considering it 'No' because VRR doesn't work.
We confirmed that ALLM works because the TV switched into Game Mode when we launched Destiny 2 on the Xbox Series X. However, like the Sony X900H, we experienced resolution issues with Destiny 2 where it would display 3840x1080 and the rectangle around the 'Open Director' in the menu flashes between white and gray. You can see an example of this from the X900H here.

The Sony KD85X91CJ has objectively low input lag, but it's higher than some other TVs, like the Samsung QN90A QLED. Still, it's fine for most gamers. Unless specified, we measure it all in the 'Game' Picture Mode, but the 4k @ 60Hz with chroma 4:4:4 input lag was measured in 'Graphics' mode instead.
Although VRR isn't working properly, we also measured the input lag with the VRR setting enabled. We measured 15.8 ms for 1080p @ 120Hz with VRR and 9.4 ms in 4k @ 120Hz, but since we don't consider the VRR to be functional, we aren't including these numbers in the results.

At the time of testing, the variable refresh rate support on the Sony X91J doesn't work. There's a VRR setting, but unlike the Sony X900H, it doesn't reduce screen tearing. *Sony is implementing VRR support through firmware updates, and they've said it'll take two updates by the end of 2021 for VRR to be fully functional, so we'll retest the TV once the second update comes out. We tried the pendulum test pattern with our RTX 3070, RX580, RX6600, and RX6800 graphics cards, and there was always screen tearing. We also checked in Destiny 2 with our RX6600 card, and there's still screen tearing.
*We're obviously past 2021 but I checked Sony's website and the X91J is still planning firmware updates for VRR.

For the record, I have the 900h. It looks and plays fantastic. The brights are exceptional and I've had no issue with input lag which is a big one for me. If you're a ranked FPS player your opinion might be different. The only disadvantage would be the reportedly non-functioning VRR for X91J.

I don't qualify for the Samsung EPP on the QN90A 85", a much better TV - but as I'm replacing a 6-7 year old Vizio 70" I doubt I'll notice once it's set up - and just in time for the NBA and NHL Playoffs, and Strange New Worlds -
Still - the QN90A @ 2250 (w/cancel trick) + tax is at least 2400 - is it a $600 better TV than the X91J? Hmm - not sure - that's 33% more - is it 33% better?

Was gratified when they finally reviewed the X91J a few months ago
I think a lot comes down to use case, and what's being replaced - this is my mancave TV for sports, movies, TV shows - I sit 10 feet away so this is likely as big as I can go - I'll be going OLED here in 5-7 years
I usually upgrade when a bigger, better (picture quality) TV comes along that is in my wheelhouse for price (I've never paid more than 2500 for a TV)
If you bid, I believe you can specify an out-the-door price - not sure on the `buy now' price but I suspect I'll find out -

Setup is challenging as it's so big - plan ahead people
As far as the TV goes, couldn't be happier, blows away my 6 year old 70" Vizio M series in every way
Thought about going C1 77, but I think this was the right way to go - the impact of the extra screen size is real - 1799 for this is amazing
