Originally, it didn't fully support 4k 120 hz with chroma 4:4:4

It looks like they took the feedback and created beta firmware for people to test. Now they have an official firmware update to release over the next few weeks. More details here -

In other words, a good time to get this TV!
EDIT: If you do decide to use it at 4k 120hz (before the firmware update is released) with HDR on with your laptop/desktop 3000 series that supports HDMI 2.1, and you experience audio issues/crackling - review this. While its related to the U8G, this basically applies to the U7G as well. https://old.reddit.com/r/Hisense/...ken_audio/
"Right-click speaker icon in tray -> Sounds -> Playback - Make sure sure the TV is set to the default device and then opening its properties. Under the Advanced tab change the default format to 16 bit, 44100 HZ (CD Quality). This completely resolved my issue."
Someone else mentions "24 bit 48000 Hz is working with my U8G for both my 3080 ti and 3060 ti rigs now"

Much better than both my JS8500 and KS8000 in other rooms. Can't believe this was $600.
I got amazon to replace the set for next day delivery.
a) the TV picture quality is bad?
b) Do I need to recalibrate?
c) Is it possible I got a lemon?
Can anyone else comment on the picture quality? Thank you so much.
Keep in mind you have to calibrate separately for HDR vs SDR, as well as per input (aka need to calibrate HDMI 1 separately from HDMI 2 separately from internal apps such as HBO Max, etc.

So far so good, very happy!
1) My soundbar is not recognized (connected to the TV via the optical audio port)?
When I go to audio output, all the options are greyed out (except TV speaker - current setting).
Any ideas?
2) Does anyone know of a thread / site with the optimal / recommended values for the (advanced) video (and audio) settings for the Hisense series?
Out of the box it looks nice, but I am sure there may be some video changes recommended.
3) I believe there is a beta firmware for some issue (maybe VRR, forgot what I read a few days ago), but may hold off since I do not have a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X.
4) I have a Roku Ultra. Debating whether for Netflix / Plex TV etc. the TV is fine or the Ultra would perform better.
I will do some comparisons, but figured I would ask to get thoughts.
Thanks for the feeedback.
I think the soundbar settings got reset when I unplugged it for the delivery of the TV.
It works (now), but I noticed the TV speakers can actually be used at the same time (NOT a bad thing)! So maybe it was working before (not sure) but the TV speakers being on threw me off (also the soundbar's settings icon goes dark, so that may have contributed), but I think it did turn itself off.
Anyway working now. Will set the default settings so it AUTOMATICALLY kicks in like it did with my old TV.
Now I just need to decide which of the 4 optical out settings to use on the TV:
PCM
Passthrough
Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital +
For video settings, going to check rtings.com (I see someone above mentioned rtings has 'recommended' settings).

When I connect the sound bar via the TV's optical input port, the sound bar being connected is not detected by the TV software in terms of showing an option to switch audio output (I only see ' TV speaker' as an option); however despite this, the sound DOES come through the sound bar simultaneously when the TV speakers are in use.
As a workaround, I can switch the TV sound to 0 using the remote, but because of this issue, I cannot control the sound bar volume with the Hisense remote...
I did not have this issue with my prior TV and the same sound bar using the same optical connection approach.
Other than that, I am really satisfied with the TV.
The built-in speakers (obviously no contest for a receiver-based HT system) are powerful and the quality surprised me (was not expecting much, especially considering a Samsung we bought recently has lackluster audio). On 10 out of 100 on some sources the volume is quite loud. The Samsung has to be much much higher and is too thin to allow better speakers.
If you feel you MUST do it though, YouTube has quite a bit of content of screen tests looking for things like DSE, dead pixels, etc.

What I like about my Sony TV is that it will prompt me to hit any key to prevent it from going to screen saver mode even when content is playing. I like that.
Still trying to figure out the optimal picture quality settings.
It has separate settings specific to each HDMI port and retains separate settings for specific content too (SDR vs .HDR e.g. and I believe Dolby Vision content too).
So that is a lot of combinations. That being said, it allows you to copy / apply the current settings to all sources / inputs, I believe (still getting to know all the nuances).
So far so good. Need to play with settings. Was flipping thru and Dr. Phil's eyes looks sooo odd. The other people on his show were fine. Maybe that's just 4K and he looks hideous?
