I used TT Premier for years. This year I switched to HR Block deluxe. I have a lot of brokerage transactions and they imported fine. State installed fine. My last year TT return imported fine. After completing this years return I have a couple observations. If you are new to doing your own taxes or unfamiliar with how it works.....TT offers more handholding and fewer stuck moments where you dont know what to do. I feel HRBlock is more for people with some experience doing their taxes. That being said Deluxe did everything Premier did as far as completing my return. I just find TT a bit more intuitive but at a huge premium in price. Just my opinion. I wiil be using HRBlock Deluxe+state from now on.

I have used both and don't really have a preference. Sometimes if I'm ambitious, I will do a free trial of the other one and do my taxes on both to see if there are discrepancies or one shows a higher return. Typically they dont

Wow they really want you to switch from TurboTax.

Anyone who previously used TurboTax (federal + state) have good things to say about H&R?

Or are they literally the same?

Only can speak to HR Block and do not like the nagging pop-ups to upgrade.

From what I can remember they're pretty close to the same. I quit using turbo tax after their bait and switch in 2015. Turbo tax has done some very sketchy stuff: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboTax

If I buy this license and already have one deluxe+state license, will it give me a second state or does it not work that way?

H&R usually has good deals and it saves my prior year information. I haven't had a problem except when I glossed over some questions about my medical coverage and HSA that required me to re-file the following year.

Given the cost of "2nd State", least expensive way that I know of, is to buy their Federal Software twice.
$20 for Federal + 2 different States.
I seem to remember there was a trick to getting State twice for free, but don't remember it; two different computers??

$20 extra to e-file State. Not a deal.

Hi JL5, can you share some more details? The way I understand is: buy 2nd one, activate it on another computer, do federal + state and then only file state. Is that correct?
