I don't post very often. Don't flame me to bad.
I was looking through the Lowes website and found this on clearance. Showed 2 in stock at my local store. Good price on a Z-Wave outlet. Looks like in store only though.

Why bother with a receptacle and not just a z wave plug? You wouldn't need any installation and it would be easy to replace. Is it purely for cosmetic reason?
I have toddlers. Child proofing a smart plug doesn't really work. They'll just unplug the whole thing. Something like this doesn't fit over a smart plug...
z wave plugs are not common. the receptacles look clean. and also portable plugs can be moved around easily which makes home automation a bit more challenging. portable plugs can't easily be used in an outdoor enclosure due to the bulk.
Make sure that if you use this outside your outlet is protected by an upstream GFCI outlet or a GFCI breaker.
Tested one of the dimmers in home assistant yesterday. Couldn't get it to add very easily, and never did get it in secure mode. Also limited functionality for smart bulbs, and scenes due to just the one button exposing itself for use unlike an Inovelli with up down, double, triple taps, etc. Worked fine if care about on, off control of dumb lights if can get to pair with secure mode. I'll probably keep the outlets.
Nice post. I wish these were in stock near me as I would love to swap some outdoor receptacles for holiday lighting scene control. Lucky folks if y'all got em in your area!

This is probably for people who are in the process of remodeling or building in progress.

I've seen these being used behind wall-mounted tablets to keep battery states cycling between 20-80%.

That sounds interesting. I'm envisioning a wall-mounted tablet, a neatly tucked behind it charger, and one of these outlets in order to do what you're saying?
My A/V receiver has an app that does all sorts of sound fields and adjustments, and I have it on my do-list to someday semi-permanently mount a tablet on an end table and use it to tweak my sounds while I'm watching movies, etc. It's much more efficient than using the remote.
I also have it on my do list to someday get some minor home automation going on, that's localized and has no internet connectivity requirement. I dream of a day when I can call "Battlestations!" and have all of the lights in the living room dim and switch to red. I think I need to finish building my replica Captain's chair from the USS Enterprise first, to get the full effect
Got 6 of the accessory switches for $6.47 each (reg $25.98). Hopefully I can use them to control some smart bulbs since they don't have relays in them. Not a whole lot of information about them online.
They also had some of the plug in smart outlets but $10 was too much IMO, and they had some of accessory dimmer switches but they were all open (~$12 each).
