Years ago I switched to a safety razor for about a year - I found the thing I liked the most was the brush & Proraso. I've gone back to a Gillette since, but continued on with a brush and Proraso (occasionally trying other shaving cream, but always returning to it).
As an aside, if you've never used shave oil I highly recommend it. I've bought it but now just make it myself with olive oil and avacado oil (that's the combo I seem to like the best). A few drops of eucalyptus oil in with it (or peppermint) and it's really refreshing and works well. Put a thin coat of oil on your face and then shave cream on top.
This is really nice and refreshing in the summer time. And way better than Gillette's canned goo.
If you need a brush, Omega makes a quality inexpensive boar brush. It takes a while to break in. Semogue boat is much softer and it breaks in faster. There are also some good synthetics that don't need break in and later very easily. Makes using this stuff like painting your face with a cloud.
