Quote from smacky00 :
I didn't know the Nanopuff was synthetic; I assumed it and the Silent Down were both down but the SD was just thicker and warmer and both suffered from the danger of getting wet.

I live in Chicago and it can snow plenty but not get "that cold" during the process. It can be in the 30s and snowing and my North Face would still be overkill and I'd get hot. That's why I was looking for something a bit lighter but still enough to keep warm.

So it sounds like the Nanopuff would cover me for when it snows in the 30s or rains in the 40s and I wouldn't need to worry about it clumping, right?

I'll check out Patagonia's site for pricing and what other offerings they have in the lightweight, synthetic section.
The nano would work well in terms of not clumping in the wet- but personally wouldn't be warm enough for me in low 30s. Probably like 36-50 degrees optimally. Probably good to freezing with a fleece under it.
