No problem. Pcps are great but many just don't have adequate training in skin pathology. I always recommend a derm for any skin changes. You are given an antifungal but fungus is rarely multifocal - plus it is a pretty quick diagnosis on exam.
Thanks! I really don't have any interest in arguing with others, online nonetheless. Some people feel very strongly about their skin care ideas - which is fine! But just like how I appreciate other people with more experience than me in other fields, I was trying to share my many years of training and clinical experience.

Thats the one! Remember, the most common cause of itching is dry skin. So avoid hot water and moisturize frequently. This is a bandaid, need to attack your cause of itch at the source.

Poison ivy often requires a short oral steroid burst when severe, but prescription topical steroids are the standard of care for this. Sedating antihistamines like benadryl can help with putting you to sleep.
Antihistamines can relieve itching when the itching is caused by histamine release in your body. There are other causes of itching (opioids for instance) that may produce itching unrelated to histamine release, and an antihistamine will not help in that instance except to produce sedation. Many people that should know this don't, and as a result antihistamines are sometimes prescribed for pruritus that they won't successfully treat.

My allergy doctor recommended this for the itchiness felt after an allergy shot. I haven't thought about asking the dermatologist about it, but next time I have an appointment, I will ask about using this, given that the allergy doctor recommended it. I know doctors in different specialties sometimes have conflicting recommendations. You've given me something to think about.
