The one thing about this machine is that you should try to use the same type of balls. (ie brand/model)

We have a collection of different types of balls that we've collected and some of them come out differently then others. So I need to start marking which balls are more consistent with each other. Or maybe pony up and just start buying new packages of balls.

But this machine is great. I didn't see the point of it at first but then found that I was horrible at throwing good pitches to my kids. And my kids aren't quite ready for batting cages yet. So this turned out to be great when I can get the balls to come out consistently.

Of course after I bought it, I started to see used ones pop up in the area. Some as low as $30, which I was able to point some people to. Several years ago it was posted on here on clearance at Walmart for a really low price, which I missed out on, can't remember the price.

Oh and the only other complaint/comment is that it's kind of bulky to lug around and I'm kind of concerned on how easy it would be to find a replacement spring if it's ever needed.

But other then that it's a great machine and highly recommend.

Not sure the current price difference with the Black Flame, which has a slightly higher top speed of pitch. When I looked into it before, I think someone posted that the front arm or something is bent slightly more forward to let the ball come out at a faster velocity or something like that.

Great machine once you get it dialed in. And it does take a while

They have our six year olds in machine pitch. The machine they use is ridiculous. It's meant for minors and majors aged kids, and throws from such a high arch. Would this be good for machine pitch six year olds?

Yes, not much arch on it and it's very consistently accurate. Plus it saves your arm, lol

This thing takes a long while to tune in. It took me forever to get it to a somewhat consistent setting. Used it for 4 years with my daughter until I bought an electric pitching machine. Ironically, I have it stored in my garage sale stack in the garage waiting for the spring.

If this is a deal, I guess they must've gone up in price like everything else. I think mine was $125 on Amazon this time last year. I'm also not sure about the comments on dialing this in. You read the settings chart and adjust the height screw and it's right on. The key is placing the ball the same way on the machine each time. My son plays machine pitch, but I think even as he gets older this will be great for batting practice still.

Which one do they have you use? My son's league uses the zooka. He's in a 6-8 league, but pretty small and can hit pretty consistently at 35mph. It is an $800 machine vs this one though.

I'm not sure honestly, but it's crazy. A little girl was swinging, hit the ball with her hand on the bat, and it made her bleed. They jumped from T-Ball soft-style balls straight to the same balls that the majors and teenagers use. There are no bats that fit these kids that won't dent from the balls. They used to have coach pitch a few years ago, but got rid of it because of "the covids".

It's a tough transition for the 6 year olds. We've had a couple of kids take them off the hands (my son included) using hardballs too. The kids had like 10 swings using the machines before the first game and weren't ready, but are a little better after a couple of weeks.

Apparently we had machines like this mechanical one last year (we were in tee ball) and it couldn't consistently throw strikes and it drove the coaches crazy.

Funny to see this posted now. I bought one 4 years ago after seeing it here when my kid was 9. I couldn't throw consistent strikes for the life of me so this was a lifesaver. It might be the best $120 I ever spent on the sport. Like mentioned above, it definitely helps to use the same exact type of balls. Pitches are generally very consistent once you get the hang of it.

On the downside, I took it out for the first time yesterday and the spring broke about 20 pitches in. My son has largely outgrown it at this point though. Looks like replacement springs are $30 shipped.

Also as mentioned, check your local classifieds. These pop up rather frequently at around $60 used in my area.

One tip on these. Get two heavy tent stakes to secure the position of the back end once you get the aim set. The front end is pretty stable but the back end needs extra help to stay put.

I bought this for my son when he was about 10 since I couldn't throw strikes consistently and without hitting him occasionally. Like others have mentioned, its accuracy and consistency are very sensitive to ball texture, hardness, lace height, etc. You have to use the exact same type of ball for best results, so invest in a new box or two. Once you do that it can be dialed in to be consistently in the zone with enough variation to simulate a real pitcher. I went on to coach his team in 11U and 12U and this thing was the MVP of every batting practice. We went on to finish in 1st place of 12 teams in 12U and couldn't have done it without this gizmo. One tip: simulate the throw with your arm prior to firing so the batter can work on his timing. Otherwise it can be quite surprising when it fires.
