www.Tempurpedictoppers.com has a 40% off toppers sale that ends Monday, 03/28/22.
It is for the Tempur-Pedic Supreme Topper, 3"; Medium "Adapt" topper. (not medium-firm like at Amazon and Wayfair-- this is UPDATED and CORRECTED info as of 03/24/22, since my original posting of this deal).

I have had this topper before, and I can tell you my experience as follows:
--These toppers last a lot longer and are higher quality than your average topper you find at the store.
--These toppers are made of a proprietary material from Tempur-Pedic.
--These toppers do not run as warm/hot like your average topper you find at the store usually does. I run hot, so I do not want my topper to run warm or hot.
--Temper-Pedic does make a "Cooling Topper", Medium feel, that you can find on Amazon, but they are much more expensive. I have never tried one of their cooling toppers, but I sure would like too, but they are too expensive.
NOTE: The toppers are returnable within 30 days on Amazon.com. Toppers are NOT returnable at Tempurpedictoppers.com website, unless the topper is deemed "defective".
I am thinking of buying a full size topper on sale for $209.40 at Temper-Pedic website, as it runs $349 new on Amazon or at Tempurpedictoppers.com website. Sometimes Amazon/Amazon Warehouse deals has the full-size version in "like new" condition for approx. $269.oo (they will post a like-new one approximately every two weeks, in various sizes).
There is a place to put a PROMO CODE during check-out on the Tempurpedictoppers.com website, but I do not have a promo code. Does anyone have a promo code for this site? I also do not know if a promo code will work on a sale items on their website.

With other toppers like the cheapo mentioned above, you will be buying a new topper every year or two and they run HOT and they are not as durable or comfortable, period.
There is also the issue of fiberglass in cheap toppers and that is NO BUENO (causes itchy skin and is super bad to breath into your lungs!).

YMMV, as it is a matter of personal preference. My body tends to lay on top of latex, but high quality memory foam is more conforming and way more comfortable to me.
But, I agree, buy a less expensive mattress, and put a high quality topper on top of it. Generally speaking, a topper should be 3" with a 4 lb density if buying memory foam (higher density is too firm and lower density is too squishy).
I find the ideal set up to be to buy a FIRM mattress, a cheaper one but not the cheapest (lol), and put a memory foam topper on top. When I first bought a topper, I purchased a Serta Futon Mattress; This futon mattress was way too firm, but once I put a 3" memory foam topper on top, it was the perfect combination, thus sayeth Goldilocks.
Tempur-Pedic makes top of the line toppers in my opinion, and are worth the higher price, esp. during this sale. ; )

I may put a softer topper (medium level topper, not firm, not soft) on top of this tempur-pedic supreme topper as it is medium-firm and it's kinda firm, but I want that so I don't feel the darn hard floor in back of SUV. A topper on top of a topper... lol
I think the 3" Tempur-Pedic Supreme which is medium-firm, is great to put on the floor of a tent, and then put sleeping bag on top or vice-versa.

WOW, as I said in the OP, at this time, Amazon has the same sale price only on the Queen size of this topper. And, at this moment, Amazon/Amazon Warehouse has a "Like New" of the Queen size topper for approx. $202.oo --that's a good deal.
