The previous fp deal is back, not from Newegg, but from Amazon this time. Hopefully the packaging is better than from Newegg.

A bit more than the WD Red Plus drives last week by Newegg (which I bit). Now wondering if I should grab a few of these?

Edit: Camel says this is the best price for this drive.

Are two 8TB drives sufficient for a raid set up with Synology DS 220+?

The 4 TB for $85 seems to be the best $/TB but it's only 4 TB…

i'd say only if you have about 3-4tb worth of data to store. you'll be running raid1 with 2 drives, so you'll only have 8tb of redundant storage.

figure out how much data you are adding each month and figure out how long 8tb will last you. If you have 5-6tb worth of storage already, wait till you can get two 12tb'ers.

That makes sense. I'll probably wait for couple 12TB going on sale. Thanks!

Seems like the best deals are found early november.

If you have an old computer laying around you could setup UnRaid on it. Great thing about it is you can mix/match hard drive sizes.

$15/gb should be doable. You may need to shuck, though.

Don't forget use case. A lot of people could benefit from ZFS, but few know about it.
