Seeking Monitor Advice For Everyday Home Use, Non-Gamer.

I currently have dual (27" & 24") desktop monitors on stands.

We are a retired couple that uses them every day for longer than we'd like to admit!... Email, Shopping, FaceBook, Finances, News, Slickdeals, Looking at the Grandkids pictures and videos.
We watch Netflix occasionally so would like it to be able to do 4K.

We don't play games so don't need that kind of monitor.

Need a Monitor I can attach to a stand that bolts to the desk with Articulating arm for less clutter.

The specs are confusing to us. We want something that doesn't hurt our eyes and is easy to see a little off-axis + big enough to have two things open on the screen at once (Email, Slickdeals for example).

I'm guessing 32"+ would work to replace our current dual monitors but am willing to go bigger??

What should I be looking for to suit our needs?

What resolution are your current monitors? How's you eyesight (do you like large text)? What's your budget?

If you want to mount it to something else you need to look for VESA mount info in the specs.

How old is you computer / what are it's specs / model? If it's older than 7 or 8 years you may have trouble trying to drive a 4K screen.

Any bigger than 32" and you should just hook it up to a TV (but not as your primary monitor).

1920X1080

Fair. We use Chrome and have Zoom set at 150%

What's your budget?

Roughly $200-$600

I'll put that on my research list.

It was a gift from one of the kids. Apx 3 years old. It is a "CLX" don't know the rest. He said it's more computer than we needed.

3yrs

I'll stick to 32"

The difference between a 1080p 24" and 27" screen is the pixel pitch or how big the pixels on the screen are. You likely notice that the 27" appears grainier, less crisp.
There's also a system wide text scaling option you can play with.

There is a screen resolution that's in between what you have and a 32" 4K, known as 2K or QHD (2560x1440) it's seen most often on 27" monitors. If you decide you want to spend less or don't want a 32" screen this is an option. You can also find 27" and 28" 4K monitors, you'd want to increase the text scaling on these.

Color accuracy is also worth considering. Your computer may or may not output HDR, but an HDR monitor will likely still look good. Monitors with better color output are more likely to meet expectations for eye strain and viewing angles (they're just better overall).

Here are a few monitors that are well reviewed to consider:

Gigabyte M32U https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-F...083GRVFXN/
Dell S3221QS (curved) https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...ccessories
LG 32UL500-W https://www.amazon.com/LG-32UL500...088G1PKKN/
Dell S2722QC https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2722...B09DTDRJWP
Asus ProArt Display PA278CV https://shop.asus.com/us/90lm06q0...278cv.html

1st, I must "Thank-You" for the thorough information. It's really helpful.

I'll check to see if that feature is on my computer.

I looked at each of these, by any chance are they listed in order of what you would recommend/purchase? Also, with the Dell being curved. Is it harder to see the screen for someone standing next to me? We (Wife or Me) call each over to look at pictures when we get new ones and one of us is standing next to the other who is sitting.

It's built into windows 10, you have this setting.

Not necessarily. Look at the amazon reviews too. For example more people than I'd hope for are complaining about stuck pixels and backlight uniformity on amazon for the M32U.

If you have a MicroCenter in your area they're probably the only retailer that's likely to carry some of the better monitors you might be interested in in their stores. It's always nice to see a monitor before you buy it if you can.

Do you currently have a streaming device of some kind hooked up to your TV (roku, amazon fire tv, android tv, apple tv)? If you do there are also options for viewing photos on your TV or casting your phone or computer screen to the TV.

personally, i'd go with a 27" at 1440p. i think it's a sweet spot for size/clarity without having to tweak settings. i would say pop into a best buy or something and test drive the size and resolutions to figure out what you like best.

i would check your netflix account, my understanding was you had to pay extra for 4k content. if you aren't paying for 4k, you won't benefit from a 4k monitor in that regard.

I like 27" at 1440p too, it's what I'm typing this on. A 27-32" 4K screen will have sharper text than a 27" 1440p screen. I do like the 2:1 scaling 1080 to 2160 on a 4K screen.

A 32" 4K screen is nice to look at, but you may find yourself moving your head around more to look at it.

The main difference LQQK would see is similar to the difference between their 24 and 27 in monitor in the sharpness or crispness of things on the screen.

We do have 4K on Netflix. 27" is now what I'll be looking for, this is harder than purchasing a car, confusing for us...Rep coming your way.

I've been reading quite a few reviews and looking around at other sites.

I'm now seriously considering going with 2-27" monitors on a dual stand that bolts to the desk.

One thing we like about our current 2 monitors is that we use one to rotate pictures every 15 seconds and with the 32" single the pics would be smaller if able to have 2 pages open at a time.

Neither one of our current monitors have the VESA screw mounts for attaching to a stand, so I'll be looking to purchase 2-27" instead of 1-32".

I guess 1440 will be the best way to go for price & value (B4B)...Any more suggestions?
