About 2 years ago we put in a Kenwood deck into our Subaru Forester 2012 and we installed a backup camera. We did not install any amps (for wife and she just wanted Android Auto and backup camera). The sound was so much better then stock.
I put an aftermarket radio in my Mazda6 2018 but with the new cars you can not upgrade the deck.
Also for a better deal your can buy the steering wheel control adapter and dash kit for 40% off by using a single point.

China companies make kits for popular cars that replace the original infotainment screen. Not sure how they work, but I think they have a pass-through mode where the factory infotainment can use the new head unit's display and touchscreen.

I also couldn't get it and my phone to reliably automatically connect via Bluetooth. I usually had to fiddle with toggling the Bluetooth connection each time I got in the car, which was very irritating. Perhaps it was an incompatibility with my particular phone. I've gotten a new phone since, but I haven't bothered even trying to connect it to the Atoto unit. I've just been using it as a crummy radio for the last couple years because using connected apps on it was so frustrating.
The radio app is buggy too. My preset stations randomly disappear. The whole button for the preset goes away so I can't even create the preset again. The only solution I've found is a factory reset, which is very annoying and only a temporary fix.
I haven't checked for software updates in a couple years, but updates were few and far between during the first year or two that I actively checked for them. I think I might have gotten one update that didn't make any difference that I noticed.
There are things I do like about the unit. It starts up in only a couple seconds from sleeping when the ignition is turned on (cold boots take longer of course). It doesn't drain the battery when the car is off and the unit is sleeping. The screen is nothing special, but it is adequately bright even in the sun.
I spent lot of time tinkering with it to try to resolve the issues, but I was never happy with it. I definitely wouldn't have bought it if I had known about the issues I would have.
I was running an Eonon from 2 or 3 years ago that was outdated and was trash from the day I bought it. Eonon is a bad company if anyone was wondering, they sent me parts to repair my own screen, when the digitizer wasn't working, 2 days after I installed it. Never buy from them.
My SOL's head unit still works, he's fine with his, but when I used it after installing it, I knew it was a mediocre unit, that's when I knew I wanted the S8 Ultra. This thing is super responsive, screen looks awesome.
It's a little on the expensive side if you're on a budget, I bought it refurbished from Atoto on Ebay for $295, but I know the S8 Ultra is going for $500+ in most places brand new, plus they're still honoring the warranty even though it's sold as refurb.
Like I said, don't buy A6, it's not worth it.
This is the new generation of the A6, much faster, Android 10, and one of the best Android head units out there for the price. I have one and it's awesome, super fast, and very well supported.
If your car has canbus steering wheel controls, get the harness with canbus box for that car brand.
IMPORTANT: if you have a Volkswagen, you have to get the Canbus harness, or it won't shut off and will drain your battery!
