This is the first gen version the CRG9 Odyssey with 120HZ refresh. The second generation version (Odyssey G9) has dimming zones and 240HZ refresh. The third generation G9 NEO has micro-LED which give true HDR but is way more expensive. With EDU discount (and samsung doesn't always verify), the second gen was available for $990. Plus there was 7% + $100 back from a rewards site. So that was $820 for the much improved 2nd gen version. https://slickdeals.net/f/15620074-samsung-edu-epp-49-samsung-odyssey-g9-curved-qled-gaming-monitor-from-990-free-shipping?

This costco deal is an OK price but not mind blowing for the first generation version. Samsung naming kinda sucks... hard for the average person to tell which model is which gen. CRG9, G9 and G9 NEO.
It's CRG9 with 120Hz and 1800R and not Odessey G9 with 240Hz and 1000R. It says Odessey G9 but actually is not.
Just be sure you want this CRG9 model before you get it.
Costco is definitely the place to buy a monitor from if you can. Any issues with it and you get a hassle free return. I bought a LG monitor from the Costco website last year and didn't care for it after 2 months of barely using it and returned it in store for full refund.

I just ordered the Samsung Odyssey G7 32" 1440P monitor from the Costco site last week when it was on sale for $599 and got it in the mail 2 days ago. Set it up yesterday and looks great so far. I was going to order the G7 when it was on sale for $500 from the Samsung website back in November/December but I didn't trust the Samsung site for returns, especially when the G7 is known for quality control issues.

Also, on Reddit/other places people have mentioned the 90 day return policy doesn't apply to monitors from Costco. It's not a computer or TV...so technically you can return a monitor at any point. Most store associates will tell you 90 days for a computer monitor but people on Reddit spoke to Costco corporate and people that work at Costco have said the 90 day return policy doesn't apply to a monitor but because there is so much confusion for returns on monitors I'd always stick to returning it under 90 days.

I'm keeping my eye on that one! So tempting.

Yeah this should fine. Yes it doesn't look like it is quantum dot VA screen, but most graphic cards can't push pass 120hz anyways. So 120hz should be good enough. And I like they updated the curvature to Match the odyessy. The original wasn't curved enough.

Seriously though, I'm guessing one would only use this if they were gaming and it was their only single monitor? Wouldn't be practice for office work with multiple applications I imagine vs 2 x 27" monitors.
I do mostly office related stuff and video production. I have the latest G9 odyssey and it seems large at first but now that I have used it for a few months i have found it to be perfect. Multi tasking is insanely easy as well. Gaming is interesting as some games still do not support this large format of ultra wide, elden ring for example is limited to 16:9. But for everything else this thing is a beast and well worth the money

Amazing monitor for home office. I do not game, and have always hated VA monitors. This is just as good as the LG UltraGear 38" Class WQHD IPS, if not better
Curious as to what makes this better than the average VA panel. I see a lot of hate in the comments of other monitors for VA panels. I have a 38" LG WQHD+ IPS monitor (2018 model) and really like it. Was thinking of getting a second for another location, but this at be better and bigger for $100 less? I only use for productivity work, not gaming.

It's plenty practical. I use it as a single monitor and just tile it in 3 panes. I MUCH prefer this over a multiple monitor setup. Whether that be triple 21-27's or dual 32's

Costco has this mislabeled, unless Samsung rebranded the entire line as "Odyssey G9 series"

Not a bad price for the CRG9 though.
This is Samsung's naming convention.

Not to be nitpicky but I'd like to point out the G9 NEO isn't a true "microLED" tv. The confusion is definitely the fault of display producers jumping the gun and claiming to have the technology before it actually exists, similar to how we have had "5G" for years even though it is truly only being released this year.

They call it "Quantum Mini-LED" for the G9 NEO, but the mechanisms by which it creates an image are essentially just a modern LCD screen. By that, I mean that colors are produced by converting a backlight. The "backlight" is produced by the "Mini-LED" in the G9. The "quantum" most likely refers to the use of quantum dots to the convert the backlight into one or more colors. But the key point is that this TV must convert blue (or white) light to other colors to create RGB. This conversion process has drawbacks, since it is not 100% efficient conversion. The components required for conversion also add bulk and complexity (cost) to the display.

True microLED (aka micro-LED, μLED etc) displays are still under development and not commercially available. To see a prototype of a true microLED display you can look up "The Wall" made by Samsung.

However, the mechanism by microLED displays produce an image is actually more similar to OLED. By this I mean that no color conversion is necessary for OLED or microLED displays. Each pixel consists of three R G or B "subpixels" which can be mixed in different ratios to produce any color (whereas pixels in LCD/quantum miniLED or whatever are made by converting a blue backlight to other colors). So a more descriptive name for microLED could be "inorganic LED" or ILED since they are functionally similar to OLED, except they use inorganic materials to produce the light.

From an end-user performance perspective, inorganic "microLED" TVs would be superior to OLED and LCD in every single way. Brighter, more efficient, better contrast, purer colors, longer lifetimes, smaller form factors, anything else you can think of.

"If microLED is so great then why don't they sell them?"
The only reason is that they are currently prohibitively $$$ expensive to manufacture. I think "The Wall" by Samsung is upwards of 6 figures. Obviously figuring out a way to reduce the manufacturing cost is a huge area of research for the industry right now. With current production methods, the cost scales with the size of the display, so it is possible we will never see microLED make it to monitors or TV screens. The first place you will see them is in small displays on wearable techs such as watches, and AR/VR glasses. Many believe the Apple Watch could be the first consumer device to use true microLED technology, but apple is so secretive nobody knows for sure.

Sorry for the information you didn't ask for. Source: my PhD thesis is on microLED tech

I have the 240hz 49" and it's incredibly useful. I'd love to have a second stacked on top. I currently have a 24" off to the side as my streaming screen with the 49" doing the heavy lifting for games for leisure and dual/triple tiling for office docs.

I bought that deal from Samsung and told them I was going to return it cause it was over a week late and hadn't arrived yet and they gave me an extra $100 to keep it

I have the G9 Odyssey. I love it. Paired with Ryzen 5800x and RTX3080 I get high FPS and never any issues. Works for games, but also you can have several windows open, like youtube etc and the experience is great without bezels of dual or triple monitors.

That being said, this is a decent deal, nothing to get too excited off of as Samsung has had the improved Odyssey G9 at around $1000 multiple times. I think I paid $960 for mine November of 2020.

Can someone break down what the exact differences are? I don't care about 120HZ vs 240HZ for an office monitor. But this one is less curved? And I remember hearing how the first gen may have had more quality control issues?

This one doesn't come with cheese. You have to order that separately. It's $1.50 more.
