That means that for a $500 retail bike, the shop paid $350. Plus, recently they've had to pay $50 shipping for each bike, a charge which used to be waived for large orders but not anymore. After assembly, any ongoing free maintenance and customer service, they would be losing money if they gave a 20% discount and sold that bike for $400.
And that's not even including all the expenses to keep the doors open, like rent, salaries, insurance, utilities, advertising, etc.

But many years I've also seen them discount the roof stuff 25%-30% at the same time as the member sale. So your coupon doesn't work, but you might still be able to buy a Yakima roof box or something at a discount while supplies last.

Was hoping to get the Yakima road-shower this time around but REI raised the price $60.00. which makes it a lot less attractive. Inflation sucks.
