A MIR on a knife. A $3 knife nonetheless. That's a first.

Knife is made from 2Cr13 steel, which has even less carbon than the dreaded 3Cr13 everyone hates on for knives. Very soft steel that even with the best heat treatment will only achieve 50HRC max. And that's pretty soft, garbage steel.

Two separate rebates involved, and you get paid in gift checks for merchandise at Mernards retail locations only. Not valid at Mernards.com. And the forms have to be mailed in.

This one is a hard pass for me. Not worth the price of printing out the paperwork and postage. I'd head to Walmart if I only had $3 for a knife and hope I get lucky and there are clearance leftovers. I've owned several Ozark Trail knives and at least I know they are built well enough to be safe to use.

You are not entirely correct.

All rebates, without a single exception, can now be combined with a single rebate form, there are no longer separate forms, multiple rebate forms ended over two years ago. I save mine up from separate trips and send in monthly, as necessary. One envelope, one rebate form, one stamp, and as many cash register pre-printed rebate claims as necessary. Rebate generated stored credits never expire at a physical Menards location. I save rebates from multiple trips and send together, typically there's a month or more before time expires to submit, and again, only one rebate form. Of course this deal makes no sense if you aren't convenient to a brick and mortar.

I used to work the Staples FAR system back in the day almost as a hobby. So I understand where you are coming from. But, a bunch of the country has no Mernards anywhere close to them, so the rebate in-store credit would be useless to them.

On top of all that, I put one of these knives in my cart on the Mernards website and it charged me a processing fee and pretty high shipping:

Order Summary
Merchandise Subtotal: $2.80
Processing Fees: $2.80
Shipping Charges: $7.85
Pretax Subtotal $13.45

So my pre-tax price for this knife and $3 in store credit is $13.45 for the knife shipped. Considering the low quality of the knife in question, this is only a deal if you already shop at Mernards and use their rebates.

This deal should be marked as in store. That's what basically all Menards deals are. If you do not have a Menards near by then it's not for you, but if in the Midwest, this (like all Menards rebates) is a great free deal.
Is it a great knife? No, not at $3 becoming free and you should not expect zt quality at this price.

$3 knife needs 2 mail-in-rebates, over $1 on the stamps.

Totally agree... the FAR at Menards really only makes sense if a location is within a reasonable driving distance.

No, actually you can send this and all other rebates in at the same time... one stamp can = $100's in rebates. But its not for everyone you are right.

For those of us that are close to a Menard's (more than 300 stores located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming) their rebates are like cash in the bank as their selection and prices are often better than HD and Lowe's. I have amassed nearly $6K in just over 10 years in store credit. It adds up. If you have never been to one you have no idea. Their stores and lumber yard dwarf HD and Lowes.

Nope. One stamp one rebate form combined with cash register printed receipts in one envelope.

Sorry folks. I think I'm missing something obvious.

How is the knife "multi-purpose"? Confused

It can cause tetanus AND puncture wounds.
