MLB.TV is great if you don't care about watching your local team.
Exactly - one reason baseball is a dying sport is because their ridiculous TV contracts and that they still blackout games - it would benefit their league if they let it have more exposure.
To minimize potentially excessively long thread mainly cuz of requesting for free code, I created in wiki a
Donation List: Place your username on list to receive from donor who would direct message you the code. DON'T CHEAT, add yourself AFTER the last username on the very bottom of list.

No, for local games. If they're blacked out in Sunday Ticket it's because it's airing on local TV.
Right. That's what MLB.tv does too. You could say that NFL is different because the games are on networks so you can get them via antenna, but you can't get them streaming. The real difference is that MLB has more regional sports network contracts. The blackout rules are the same though. But re the NFL, with new partnerships with Amazon, NFL Network, etc., the games are blacked out fully if you don't pay.

and the regional sports networks showing the baseball games are disappearing from many venues. So, your options are the local crappy cable or Direct Tv, in most cases.

Or a pirated stream

That's a separate annoyance that I fully agree with you on, but MLB.tv is still valuable if you travel even a little. It's nice to be able to catch the game on vacation without having to go to a sportsbook or bar.

Quote from Husbeard :
MLB should have done this as part of their collective bargaining... Nothing they did has me interested in coming back as a fan. I hate what they've done to Baseball.
Be careful what you wish for though. Those regional sports deals are a big part of their revenue. If the deals aren't exclusive, that revenue goes away, which makes MLB.tv even more expensive. Not saying that's not better, just be careful what you wish for. if MLB.tv gets any more expensive it might be more than the cost of 6 months of basic cable. You can't assume T-Mobile will keep giving it away for free.

What day do the codes actually become available? Years past it was the Tuesday before opening day, which i guess would be around April 5th this year?

i really like mlbtv even for local games. They black them out lives but allow you to watch them 3 hours later. I never watch games live and usually just like to watch a sped up version either late at night or in the morning. 3 hours is soon enough to watch games without hearing the results first and allows me to watch almost live without commercials

why do half the people in here say they already HAVE the codes and half say it's not available yet?

Also, this will be the first year I should be able to get it myself through a relative, but it's always confusing whether or not they can just get a code to give me or if they need to log into my mlb acct.

Just as an FYI for those looking for codes today... maybe it's just me but I don't currently see the MLB.tv offer on the T-Mobile Tuesdays app yet.

There's a free SONIC slushie (w/purchase)
$4 off movie ticket for THE LOST CITY
free $2 DUNKIN' card
and some discount for a meal plan service.

That's all I can see unless they drop this later in the day today (Tuesday). Otherwise it might not be happening or perhaps next Tuesday.
