Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00018R...UTF8&
I currently have a pitchfork stuck in my $800 grinder. Suggestions?
You can look up the tests on their website or YouTube channel. Google "Cook's Country" which is a sister show to their main show.
They DO recommend a burr grinder for its "convenience" over a blade grinder, and agree with everyone else that a burr grinder is needed for certain coffee types that physically require a specific grind size, like espresso. DRIP coffee doesn't need a specific grind size, as verified by their numerous blind tastings.
You will read a lot of ANECDOTAL evidence from golden tongued individuals that claim to be capable of tasting a difference between blade versus burr ground DRIP coffee 100% of the time. Compare their claim to AMT's numerous published blind tests and do your own math
Btw...I bought a hario manual burr grinder about 10 yrs ago to compare to the proctor silex blade grinder I had been using. I also tasted no improvement from the burr grinder for my DRIP coffee.

My take on blade vs. burr: coffee stores use burr so everyone that works there makes coffee exactly the same. But I make the same coffee every morning with the Kitchenaid. The grind sound changes just slightly when its done and it is very, very consistent. Espresso is a different deal; you want a very fine grind without boulders or dust.
It is total baloney the coffee will taste better. Any new coffee you get, it needs to be dialed in for your taste but burr grind won't taste better. Take a look at this video starting 5:35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7LAzSK
Why buy a burr? They tend to be neater (as long as it manages static); the one button grind/measure is convenient; and if you do espresso. But they are larger; harder to clean; and more expensive.
Good luck! Don't be me and buy the Kitchenaide. It lasts forever and makes excellent coffee so it will unhappily fail to give you a reason to upgrade.
It creates a nice uniform grinds and I'm very happy with it.
Every thread is the same. Reality is, the difference between a blade and burr grinder is miniscule. Everyone is searching for bang for buck:
1. Biggest bang from buck is going from preground coffee to whole bean coffee and grinding yourself. I would say that is the largest quality gain for average coffee drinkers.
2. HOW you grind your coffee adds a small, marginal gain after step 1 (burr vs blade debate).
3. The third step is going from pre-roasted coffee to fresh roasted coffee. That is easily the biggest quality jump for when you've developed a palate for coffee.
*Somewhere in between step 2 and 3 is how you BREW your coffee; however that is another debate in and of itself.
As you can see, on the spectrum of creating good coffee at home, whether you spend $15 on a Krups blade or $100 on a decent burr grinder, it is a tiny fraction of the actual coffee gains you can have.
