According to the Amazon reviews I just perused, you have to pay for a subscription to use QoS and heavy WAN use means you have to reboot it regularly.

I struggle with all of these wireless routers on SD… I need a solid router, referb or new or whatever, that's reliable and high speed for streaming multi media devices and high definition media. What the heck do I buy? My budget is $250 top. 2200sqft coverage. Thanks ahead of time for the suggestions.

Used TP-link wireless routers for almost a decade. When I found out that they started doing pay walls just to use the basic settings that were previously free on older routers, dropped them like a bad habit. Just ordered an Asus wifi 6 router

I think QoS is included. But...
"HomeShield Basic security software, which offers rich parental controls with age-based web filters, website blocking, and bedtime shutdown scheduling. However, you'll have to subscribe to the $5.99 per month/$54.99 per year HomeShield Pro plan to access premium features such as Time Limits, Time Rewards, and Traffic Statistic reports. The Pro plan also gets you protection against virus attacks, phishing schemes, and other malware, as well as real-time protection for all of your smart home devices."

Used Netgear AX6000 RAX120 on amazon for around $135, it was a early Wifi 6 router but reviews on it have been pretty good. Get it test it thoroughly and if you like it keep it, it was a $500-600 router when it first launched.

This is becoming the norm, Asus is one of the last hold outs, lets see how long it lasts.

It sends traffics to its security company, because the firmware is probably the same across their family line and some family line models have the premium version of the security included for free cause they were older, so it was probably more efficient to just route all traffic when they originally launched it.

In the short and long its not like its going to third party companies that should not be seeing it in the first place, how do you think Netgear/Eero operate their premium features, by sending them also to third parties....

In the long this is a not a big issue, that 99% of any real user will care about. If they did we would have had a bigger uproar when we found out our own government using backdoors with major providers was recording everything we were doing, NOONE CARED after the initial uproar.
