this is the plastic grinder, fyi. the metal one is the one you want
This is a little much for tomato sauce.

I have to make all sauce/paste fresh. My wife can't eat the canned stuff, we are guessing it's an allergy to the preservatives.

Anyway, best thing to do is get an immersion blender. The Mueller brands on Amazon are cheap and work great.
Up to you on if you want to blanch and remove skins or seeds. I cheat a lot and just blend the crap out of it.
Few hours on the stove for sauce, or in the oven for paste. Then I bag and freeze it for later.

Only complaint I have about making your own is that it is not cheap. Takes about 5 tomatoes to make a cup of sauce.
The real reason isn't really durability, I mean clearly it helps when it's made of metal. The real reason you want a metal ones is because you can chill it and keep the meat cold. The plastic one warm up and the plastic insulates it. So even an ice pack wrap doesn't do enough.

For small jobs, the plastic is fine, but I wouldn't do any major meat grinds in it, unless you want the meat to start cooking inside the grinder.

Is there a pack for a metal one? Do I really need it? I see the metal food grinder but I didn't see a metal version of this pack that does everything.

I have plastic versions of other kitchenaid attachments and they seem quite solid, never had any issues.

I've never looked, I bought my grinder individually. there's been plenty of discussion over the metal v plastic grinder in threads past, but just read reviews and youll see that the plastic grinder isn't up to par

For $90 bucks though to get all three I think it's a good deal especially with good ratings

Tomato sauce? Break the tomatoes with your fingers or cut them. Why would you mash them to oblivion?

Usually the meat you use to grind is already almost frozen, grinds easier. Who chills the grinder? My grandpa and father raised and butchard hogs/cattle never heard of that. We also grind meat on a small scale and again never heard of chilling the grinder... I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.

So your solution to fresh ground beef is to freeze it. haha maybe you wouldn't have to freeze it if the grinder was cold to start with... freezing meat also changes it's texture and makes it more sponge like. No thank you.

Also I'm sure you grandpa and father used a lot of plastic in there set up back in the day when things were definitely completely made of said material... lol I'm sure it wasn't a metal grinder

Keeping meat cold, the nonsense. Better freeze it tho...
