What do you mean? This is a Ryzen 7 5800. This is on par or beats the intel 11th gen 1195g7.

Ryzen 7 has better performance than the 11th gen Core i7s. The 12th gen ones are better than the 11th gen, but I would stick with AMD for this cycle of CPUs.

I recently bought my wife a Dell with the Ryzen 7 5800U and it's quite impressive how fast her laptop is.

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop, which is a backup machine for my business. I'm only looking at Ryzen 7 laptops. This HP looks solid for the $, plus I love COSTCO.

That's correct this is subjective. Both are a good deal.
I have seen both and I liked envy better, except I don't like the silver keyboard on both.

Have not opened it in case a better deal came by like this one could be. Tested n the store and I think I like the 16 10 14" screen better than 13.3. Never had touch b4 so can't really say. The 5800U is a plus just don't know if it is fast enough above the 5600u to care

I customized one on HP.com last BF, 5600u and the upgraded 1440p screen, 16GB for $580 after student discount, get the high res screen if you can, I think it looks really sharp. I also cut out custom vinyl wrap for this (white carbon fiber on ceramic white) and have some extras laying around if anyone wants, it looks amazing.

Pretty good deal for the build and only $50 more than the $599 HP envy deal at Costco. For $50 you get a better processor, slightly faster ram, and a 16:10 aspect ratio (better imo). However you lose touchscreen capabilities and have lower battery life.

This is pretty bad advice. The other Costco deal is an i5 and the only real advantages I see over Ryzen is Thunderbolt and a few more PCI lanes. The advantage of this Ryzen is higher single core performance, MUCH higher performance in multi core workloads, and a MUCH better igpu for graphics. For the vast majority of people that will just use it for things like creating documents, web browsing, and arguing on Slickdeals you wont notice a difference between either of these chips.

So I should save the $50 and get the Envy for my wife (web browsing, streaming video, etc)?
I like what I hear about the AMD processors but fifty bucks is fifty bucks.

I bought the aero last slick deal at $700. When the envy $600 deal came up I thought long and hard and decided to stay with the aero. The 16:10 screen was the big factor for me as I really enjoyed it the almost 3 months I've had it. Before that it was 16:9 for 8 years. So much easier reading and I don't watch movies on laptop so it's perfect. Touch screen on the envy seems cool but I don't think I'll ever use it. I also really wanted to give AMD a shot this time around and I've read alot of positive on this processor. I did love the solid feel of the envy though, felt strong. The aero is almost too light for me. But I kept the aero for reasons listed. Also. I think the feel of HP keyboards blow away the lenovos, even if some don't like the silver.
