For 6 bucks to support a Macross game with the OG music... Yup! fark the metacritic score.
If you grew up watching the original Macross/Robotech then it's a no question purchase.

I just about lost my shiz when I saw robotech on Slickdeals. Then I saw what it was. I think I'll pass.

Looks like a gradius/ikaruga type clone for those who remember those. Can't be that bad for anyone that likes robotech.

it's hard to understand the hate here.

This is game is very similar to most Macross games over the years. I'm reminded a lot of Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie for the Super Famicom.

If you're not into old school 2D style side scrolling shooters, this won't be your bag. These tend to be punishingly difficult and arcade-y.

I own Macross/Robotech games on SNES, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and the gba game this is a remake of.

Thanks for posting this. I never played the game but loved the series as a kid. I watched the original Robotech so many times. Good memories. The sound track in this is awesome.

Licensing made it near impossible here in the USA. Every few years they release a new season/story or movie in Japan.

Probably because Macross was a single series, and Gundam is a giant multimedia franchise. Macross probably wouldn't even exist if Gundam hadn't caused the huge science fiction boom that happened in the 1980s in Japan.

Macross is massively popular in Japan and still produces high quality series every years. Gundam has an iffy track record with production value and both IPs have been around for just as long. Macross is a space opera and Gundam is it's own sub genre of Giant Robots.
Robotech is a single session of Macross although butchered by Harmony Gold. Due to licensing in the USA we will never get anything Robotech Crystal Dreams movie was supposed to have a sequel... Harmony Gold happened. There have been 2 newer series in Japan since then. Both very good. All easily found online with subs 😸

Also, Gundam WISHES it put out anything as massively amazing whole package as Macross Plus.
Go rewatch Gundam Wing. It's bunk man. Rose tinted glasses bunk. Wing Zero Custom though 💝
