Microcenter is not a national chain, unfortunately.
This would be perfect for someone looking for a Ryzen upgrade on their existing board. We all don't dump all our hardware every time a new socket comes out.

This was ~409 USD at newegg just 2 days ago with the app code. They raised the price then offered a larger coupon but the net difference means it now costs more. They're playing pricing games.
Note sure what you are talking about? Also your random 499 price you pulled out of thin air is not cheaper. Fanboy much?
You managed to ignore the application benchmarks in that same article where the 12900k is 20% faster, talk about being a fanboy.
And DDR5 is moot when Toms used the absolute worst DDR5 available 4800mhz. There's a reason why every reviewer says you can stick with DDR4 on 12th gen. Because it makes next to no difference outside a few tests, and 4800mhz is barely better than DDR4.
Anyways, I wouldnt even recommend the 12900k as the comparison to a 5900x, because the $312 i7-12700F[bhphotovideo.com] on cheap DDR4 already beats the $440 5900x in basically every way:

I have a friend with an Intel 12900k and he has all sorts of issues with it. He's got a motherboard that supports ddr4. I don't know if it's motherboard issues, what I do know Windows 10 does not work with the efficiency and performance scores very well compared to windows 11. But right now windows 11 is a steaming pile of crap. Also be sure to have basically the most powerful power supply ever especially if you're running something like a 3090, if you're one of those people who likes to have the highest end system.
You sound like a typical Intel snob fan boy, what do you say to the people who currently have some thing like a ryzen 3600, and they want to upgrade to a much faster AMD processor on the same motherboard no less, are you telling them that they're stupid, how dare they ignore these benchmarks, they should just throw away their existing system they already spent 800 bucks on and spent another 800 in just the motherboard and CPU alone, seriously dude, why do you have to sound so freaking snobbish lol

Prices will continue to drop on AM4 as we get closer to AM5 release.
I have the 5900x, is a BEAST and does more then what i need it to do. It does run hot, but by design. You can undervolt it and gain GHz. I have the 5900x paired with a 3080, it runs everything I throw at it. Plus I did it so I could skip the 40 series cards and AM5/DDR5 till it all becomes more main stream.

Sounds like someone who didn't do a fresh install of Windows. That's usually the issue with stability and these newer platforms.
(edit for the record - 5900X is a great upgrade option for existing Ryzen users.. otherwise I'd say wait 3-4 weeks and see what 5800X3D offers if you're looking to build a gaming rig.. see also if it affects Intel pricing).
