I have both the shield and the Apple TV. I use the shield for kodi and that's about it. The Apple TV does everything else better.

People have mentioned a lot of the pros of owning an Apple TV 4K but let me sum it up, coming from owning a Shield Pro, the newest Firestick TV+, Roku Ultra, and a Google Chromecast with Android TV.

1. No ads
2. Clean UI
3. Best, most up to date streaming apps - Netflix/HBO Max apps are simply best on tvOS
4. Best picture - people will argue about the Shield Pro's AI upscaling but Apple TV's frame rate and content matching and other factors make it the best picture on my Sony OLED
5. Premium remote not a cheap plastic piece of junk with Netflix / Hulu buttons on front
6. Super fast navigation - nothing comes close
7. Ability to multi-task and close out apps instead of restarting the device just like on your phone

And to me the best feature of all that no one mentioned - spatial audio with Airpods 2/3/Pro/Max

If you dont have a huge surround sound system, watch shows when others are sleeping, or even if you do have a big sound system - spatial audio when watching thru Apple TV 4K is amazing. Feels like you are in the theater and absolutely no lag between audio/video. Only device that came close to eliminating the lag was the Shield Pro and that was with locally stored video files not streaming.

$160 is a lot of money to spend but this device will last you at least 3 years where you can sell it for $80 and recoup half what you paid.

If you are on Apple's ecosystem there are many more advantages to this device but most of my Android loving friends have one and they love it

If you use Plex server and have variety of movie formats, Shield will play natively without a hitch whereas AppleTV is very picky. Also Shield can host Plex Server. I do have both and I use Shield in my basement movie room while AppleTV stays in the living room.

$10 off Costco's normal price for this item, which is already $10 less than what Apple sells it for. Every Costco and Target in Chicago was out of stock, but I was able to get Best Buy to price match. Good luck!

I been trying to get one at Costco for month. It's madness, it's like the second they get a shipment, it's all gone!

I just ordered it online. Can't beat Costco's warranty. Also, I don't think I've ever seen it lower than this price.

I have the 1st and 2nd gen of this. Love the new remote. Not super sure what else changed but it's by far the best streaming device. I do miss Chromecast from the Shield though.

I agree. I have used all the boxes, most Chinese ones too, Apple TV is by far the best, worth every penny

Even better if you have Dolby Atmos sound bar for some theatre sound!

I've been very happy with the Shield but stopped gaming and am moving into Apple ecoysystem, so tempted to sell it and get the Apple TV instead

I have both. Can't imagine my wife or kids sitting through learning the Shield. They don't care. They just want to watch TV.

Does this one support HDR in Youtube app? I have the previous version of the apple tv 4k and it doesn't seem to support HDR there, and neither does the Youtube app for my particular year of LG tv, although the TV itself supports the format in general.
