Since most of the comments are pooping on this movie, anyone have another better film about the first world war they would recommend?
This is definitely the best original treatment of the first world war I have watched. While it runs in real time for the most part, I think allowing some of the mundane parts of life and conversations really brought the nature of trench warfare of world war one to life in a way I've never seen before. Yes, the film takes you through hundreds of yards of narrow trenches. You wouldn't get a sense of how that actually feels if there were cut scenes that jump straight into the action. I really related to the main characters and it made me feel like these people from 100 years ago talked about slightly different things, but are basically the same as people I knew when I was about their age. Would love to see other treatments of world war one that are half as good.
Man, there are some harsh critics on SD! This movie has 88% on rotten tomatoes, won 3 Oscars, and was nominated for best picture. This is a good movie and very entertaining. A great one to watch on a nice home theater with the volume cranked up. This is an excellent price for this movie in UHD. Bought! Thanks OP!

I liked this one fine. It's a little slow but it kept my interest. That said, I'm not sure it's a film I would own. It's not Full Metal Jacket. It's worth a rental or view though if you don't expect mega fighting scenes. Like trench warfare this one sort of crawls along.
