Yeah, but only IF you have a 24v Kobalt battery.

I've been on FW and SD for 20 years now, buying all sorts. During that time I've learned lots of lessons, one of them being: don't buy something you don't have a use for with the expectation that you'll find a use for it. Such things just take up space, add clutter to your life, and ultimately end up being given away or trashed. When I look at this tool this is absolutely something the old me would have bought. laugh out loud These things are cheap and abundant because Lowes customers don't have a use for them.

I've acquired a nice collection of Kobalt 24V and Ryobi 18V tools for ~30 cents on the dollar over the years. Let them keep thinking Kobalt and Ryobi suck. As a DIY homeowner, I've been very satisfied....

A drill will certainly not do the same job as a die grinder. Die grinders have traditionally been pneumatic tools that spin at a very high RPM. Typical cordless drill spins at 2,000 RPM on high. This Kobalt die grinder spins at 10,000 RPM on low and 25,000 RPM on high.

Die grinders are mostly used in metal fabrication and machine type work. Most homeowners aren't going to really need a die grinder unless they have a small MIG welder at home to tinker with.

You use bits like these in die grinders:

Thanks! I was on the fence at $69 as I won't use it often, but can't resist at $39. My store has 7 more. The manufacture date on mine is 2019 so they weren't really moving at previous prices.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I have little use but at this price it's hard to pass up. There are plenty available near me at this price. Maybe tomorrow I will pick one up.

This is the worst kind of tool - one looking for, but failing to find, a use. Seems like a drill would do the same job and then some.
Believe it's the same principal as a dremel. Low torque high rpm. I could see a metal worker or someone who builds a lot of chain link fences wanting one for this price.

Thanks, picked one up. Not sure what I'll be using if for though... apparently it's good for sharpening mower blades.

While it is a great deal vs the retail price, I'd still consider the $39 to be about what it's worth.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you MadPup. It's kind of like the many posts here on Slickdeals now a days cheap, abundant and of little use.

Its just a high powered dremel with a 1/4" shank. There's been a lot of times where I've needed to take a little bit of material off something but my dremel lacked the power and my angle grinder was just too aggressive. This things definitely got the beans too. Extremely loud though. Now that I have it and I see what it can do I'm glad I have it. My dremel is now exclusively for dog toes.

As for the price? Compare it to other brands and $140 is a steal. It's just that the people that pay $300 for a die grinder aren't the same people that have Kobalt batteries. It definitely feels like a well made tool for the $100-$120 price range. Kobalt just manufactured too many and didn't market them at all.

Hate it that lowes now does not allow clearance purchases online or through app; used to be so much easier to get these deals

I haven't found anything worth pulling the trigger on for Ryobi, but I've often thought about it, but ridgid goes on clearance so often that its just not worth it to me. There's a lot of cool gimmicky Ryobi stuff that makes me want to get into it but I just don't want another charger clogging up my drawers Smilie.

Kobalt 24v however... its every bit as good as my Ridgid stuff and their XTR stuff is competitive with Dewalt. I wouldn't trade my XTR impact driver for any other impact. On YouTube, Kobalt tools regularly test near the top, it's a sleeper brand for sure. I'm pretty bummed they pretty much stopped expanding the line up ever since FLEX came out.
